SPOILER ALERT
This article contains major character or plot details.

Consider the ante upped: The Steel Ball Run now has jockeys with superpowers, all tied to a mysterious, cursed region called the Devil’s Palm. No one knows where exactly this area is or how big it is. In fact, the Devil’s Palm moves several miles a day, and its terrain constantly changes, with mountains and valleys disappearing or reappearing at random.

Years ago, Mountain Tim unknowingly wandered into the Devil’s Palm when he and his army unit got lost in the desert while looking for water. While everyone in his crew died from dehydration, Mountain Tim walked away with the detachable limbs and lasso-related abilities that kept him alive that day. He says the Devil’s Palm ‘“draws out a person’s dormant potential,” which he calls “Stands.”

The Devil's Palm gives Johnny his own Stand — buzzsaw-like spinning fingernails that he uses to neutralize the Boomboom family. Now Gyro and Johnny can both tap into the Spin, with Johnny's Stand marking a big step forward on his own path to walk again.
