Tyler’s wife is a hot topic on Selling the OC. Or, at least, the fact that the surfer-turned–real estate agent has a wife is a constant subject of conversation in the Oppenheim Group’s Newport Beach office. Yet the cameras never turn to Tyler Stanaland’s spouse, Pitch Perfect actor Brittany Snow, over the course of its eight-episode run. That doesn’t mean she isn’t aware of what went down during production. As Tyler tells reality podcast We Have the Receipts, hosted by Lauren Speed-Hamilton and Chris Burns, he doesn’t hide anything from his wife.
During We Have the Receipts’ newest episode, Lauren asks Tyler what makes his marriage so strong. “Communication. Trust. I think those are the two most important qualities right there,” Tyler responds. “Being able to talk about things that happened while filming. Understand what’s happening.”
And a lot happens for Tyler during Selling the OC Season 1. In Episode 5, the realtors rehash the events of the previous night over drinks. Their co-worker Kayla, who is not at the table, is accused of trying to kiss Tyler “twice,” allegedly adding, “No one would have to know about it.” Kayla has her own explanation for what actually went down during the controversial off-screen moment. Polly is infuriated. Tyler seems uncomfortable. In the following episode, he and Kayla clear the air. They end the season on good — and extremely platonic — terms.
At the time of the podcast interview, Tyler says he hadn’t yet seen the drama unfold on Selling the OC. But he does confirm he also talked to Brittany about Season 1’s other gossip-churning plot point: noseys. “Yeah [I told her about it], but there’s nothing cool or sexy [about a nosey],” Tyler says. As he and Alex Hall agree, if you want to “turn someone off”... give them a nosey.
