Good etiquette doesn’t just mean using the right fork and holding in your burps — at its core, it’s the practice of self-confidence, and creating an environment where the people around you feel welcomed and respected. In her series Mind Your Manners, international etiquette expert Sara Jane Ho teaches six clients these principles and more, leading them on a journey that goes beyond politeness and toward self-fulfillment.
Around the holiday season, the host can often feel like a master of ceremonies: making sure everyone is happy and entertained can be just as crucial as making a killer dessert. Thankfully, Sara Jane has advice for that, too. Ahead, she shares with Tudum her recommendations for nearly every kind of holiday gathering vibe, from comedy specials to the Lindsay Lohan-aissance.
What would you recommend watching when you really want to lean into the holiday spirit?
Falling for Christmas. I really want to see Lindsay Lohan back in action.
And what do you watch when you need a refresher on how to properly entertain guests?
Well, there’s only one show for that: Mind Your Manners.
What do you watch when you need cooking inspiration?
The Great British Baking Show. It’s so fun and so funny. And it helps me keep up my British accent.
What do you watch when you need something your family will enjoy?
The Crown, because my dad studied in the UK and he grew up with that whole Diana and Charles drama.
What do you recommend watching after the kids have gone to bed?
Anatomy of a Scandal. It’s so sexy.
And then what do you watch when you want to turn on something that everyone in your opinionated family will agree on?
Well, it has to be something downright hilarious, like Trevor Noah: Son of Patricia. I was just laughing so hard watching that. He’s brilliant.
What do you watch when you’re ready for the holidays to be over?
Emily in Paris gets me back into work mode.
