Michelle Yeoh won the award for outstanding performance by a female actor in a leading role at the Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday. The star of Everything Everywhere All at Once was nominated alongside Viola Davis (The Woman King), Ana de Armas (Blonde), Danielle Deadwyler (Till), and Cate Blanchett (Tár).
Accepting the award from presenter Jeff Bridges, Yeoh laughed and cried as she took the stage.
“I think if I speak my heart will explode,” she said. “SAG-AFTRA, to get this from you, who understands what it is to get here — you know the journey, the rollercoaster ride, the ups and down… but most importantly we never give up. I thank you for your love, for your support, because I know I'm up against titans.”

With this win, Yeoh makes SAG history as the first performer of Asian descent to triumph in the leading actress category. Yeoh acknowledged the historical nature of the win, saying: “This is not just for me, this is for every little girl that looks like me.”
“Thank you for giving me a seat at the table because so many of us need this,” she added. “We want to be seen, we want to be heard, and tonight you have shown us that it is possible.”
