What was just an ordinary day for a college senior turns into a nightmare when she gets lost in rural Kentucky on her way to a job interview. In the 2018 thriller Rust Creek, director Jen McGowan’s feature film debut, Sawyer becomes a moving target after two men suspect her of witnessing them commit a crime. Written by Julie Lipson (The River), the film stars Hermione Corfield, Jay Paulson, and Sean O’Bryan.

What happens in Rust Creek?
While driving to a job interview, Sawyer (Corfield) takes a wrong turn and ends up stranded deep in the Kentucky wilderness. There, she encounters brothers Hollister (Hauptman) and Buck (Hill), meth dealers who noticed Sawyer drive by while they were burying a body. Now they’re following her to make sure she stays quiet. After she declines their alleged offer for help, they get in a scuffle that causes Sawyer to flee into the woods. As Hollister and Buck follow close behind, Sawyer fights for her life to escape — with the unlikely help of one of the brothers’ associates.

No. Though it was very loosely inspired by writer-producer Stu Pollard’s experience getting lost in Maryland when he was in college, the film is completely fictional.
