How far would you go for your family? Doesn’t matter if it’s the one you were born into or the one you built. That’s the big question at the center of the latest addition to Netflix Stories: Outer Banks. Finding yourself, your dad, your one true love, and maybe a whole lotta sunken treasure are all in a day’s work for a Pogue. Now it’s your turn to live the OBX life in Netflix’s latest narrative adventure game.
Netflix Stories: Outer Banks is a mobile game based on the sun-soaked Netflix teen adventure show of the same name. Here, you’ll create an avatar, customize their look, their pronouns, and step off the bus as OBX’s newest resident. The meat of the gameplay is picking conversation options and navigating relationships with the cast of the show. What you “say” in this text-based treasure hunt will impact how you’re perceived, and how you interact with the cast shapes the way the story plays out.

Netflix Stories: Outer Banks mirrors the first season of the show, putting you in the shoes of John B’s long-lost half-sibling. You arrive in the OBX with your dad’s compass in your pocket and a duffel bag full of woefully inadequate clothes. Within moments you run into Sarah Cameron, who whisks you away to her family’s mansion on this North Carolina island for a respite from the road and wardrobe refresh.
You’ll go to Season 1’s massive pre-storm rager on the beach, cruise around the marshlands with the Pogues aboard the HMS Pogue, and even crash a Kook party or two. You’ll need to earn John B’s trust along the way as well. Naturally, he’s wary when a stranger pops up out of nowhere, wielding his dad’s compass and saying they’re his long-lost sibling. The rest of the Pogues warm up a little faster, but you’ll have to gain entrance into this found family.
Once you do, that bond is unbreakable. And, in a first for a Netflix Stories game, you can romance members of the cast. You’ve got a trio of options to pick from: Kiara, JJ, and Pope. If you’ve had a crush on any of John B’s best friends on the show, now’s your shot at living out those fantasies. Pogues don’t mack on other Pogues, though, so you’ll have to sneak around John B. That makes it more fun, doesn’t it?

Since Netflix Stories: Outer Banks mirrors Season 1 of the show, the game’s cast only includes characters that were in that season. While you’re playing, you’ll run into:

In Netflix Stories: Outer Banks, you can finally romance a main character from the source material. Your avatar’s gender doesn’t matter, and there’s no strict sexual preferences to set during character creation, so you’re free to flirt with whichever of John B’s best friends you please: Kiara, JJ, or Pope. For the good of the group, you should honestly just pick one and stick to them. Pogue-on-Pogue romance is frowned upon as it is –– there’s no reason to create extra drama.
No, you don’t need to watch the source material to enjoy Netflix Stories: Outer Banks. The storyline mirrors the show’s first season, and, honestly, going in blind means that all the story’s twists and turns will be even more unexpected. Like, who is the bad guy pulling all the strings, for instance.
There are 18 chapters in Netflix Stories: Outer Banks. The first two chapters are available now, and an additional two chapters will be released each week.
