





Wedding bells are ringing, but for whom? Well, not even the ones getting hitched have a dang clue. In Married at First Sight, whose 17th season is now on Netflix, singles with a history of striking out in relationships are each paired with others who have a similar dating record — for life. Each couple finds out they’re getting married during their very first meeting. The future spouses are chosen after relationship experts slash matchmakers take turns interviewing a crew of singles, scoping out how well their personalities will complement one another. Lauren, a federal budget officer who identifies as queer, is looking for a monogamous relationship in which she feels safe being her true self. Lauren’s hoping to be paired with someone who’s as faithful and open-minded as she is.
Orion, an electrical technician, grew up in the Navajo Nation. His culture means everything to him, and he hopes to share it with his future bride.
The matchmakers think Lauren’s adventurousness will align with Orion’s ability to embrace both his masculine and feminine sides. The experts say Lauren’s and Orion’s desires to share their cultures with their future spouse will pair well.

Austin, a business development representative, loves outdoor activities including biking, skiing, and hiking. He describes himself as a typical Colorado native, he’s is close with his friends and family, and loves to be social — he’s always wanted to get married and start a family.
Becca is a wedding photographer who describes herself as quirky and says she doesn’t abide by typical social norms. She loves video games and listening to podcasts. Becca is ready to be on the other side of the camera at a wedding, for once.
The relationship experts think Becca will bring out Austin’s fun side, and that Becca will learn from Austin’s emotional intelligence.

Clare, a therapist and quadruplet, is very close with her family. She loves to help people, and it gives her a sense of fulfillment. Claire is passionate about mental health, especially after losing her brother. Now that she’s spent many years working on herself, she’s ready for a long-term commitment.
Cameron, a bicycle shop owner who loves to mountain bike, has always wanted a wife and family but has been held back by his fear of failure. As an adult, he loves to go on adventures, especially mountaineering excursions.
Expert Dr. Pepper Schwartz says the match makes sense because both of them are highly educated with a great amount of empathy. Schwartz says Clare’s caring nature matches well with Cameron’s adventurous side.

Emily is an account executive for a tech company. She describes herself as the life of the party. She’s never been in a relationship before — or even made it past a third date … and Emily’s friends say that might make it hard for her to settle down with someone other than herself.
A self-described selfless guy and software consultant, Brennan is originally from New York and says that’s where he learned how to speak his mind — for better or worse. Brennan says he’s ready to settle down for good, though his best friends think he may have trouble letting his guard down.
The matchmakers say these two make a wonderful combo: They’re both social, ambitious, adventurous, and successful in their careers. Emily and Brennan each have strong value systems that the matchmakers think are perfectly aligned.

Chloe is a senior director of development. She says she’s given up dating life because the men she’s usually attracted to are nothing but trouble. Chloe says she’s lived an unconventional life, and is excited to be paired up for life in an unconventional way.
Michael is a senior project manager in the tech industry, who’s been successful in his career. He likes to box and is known for experimenting with his fashion choices as a way to express himself. He learned his sense of loyalty from his mom and dad, who passed away when he was young. Michael wants to bring that loyalty to his marriage.
Season 17 features Dr. Pepper Schwartz, Pastor Cal Roberson, and Dr. Pia Holec. These experts interview the candidates and pair them together based on their personalities, value systems, sex life, and more.
This season takes place in Denver.
