Christmas came early for Mariah Carey this year.
Ahead of the Season 5 launch, the pop queen and longtime superfan of The Crown received a special gift to celebrate the launch of Season 5: a private screening of the season premiere at her home.
Clad in her most regal attire – that tiara!! – and sipping a cup of tea, Carey enjoyed Episode 1, "Queen Victoria Syndrome" while lounging on her couch.
And magnanimous musical monarch that she is, Queen Mariah also graced her humble subjects with an offering of her own. If you listen closely, you’ll find that Season 5, Episode 1, set in the ’90s, features her 1991 song “Emotions.” Skip to the 00:17:50 mark to hear the familiar beat as Princess Diana (Elizabeth Debicki) and her two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, take up water sports on the Mediterranean.
Carey has been vocal about her love for the royal series. In 2017, she congratulated Claire Foy (seen as Queen Elizabeth in Season 2 in the background of the photo above) on her Emmy win for lead actress in a drama series, calling The Crown “my fave show.” In 2018, she posed with Matt Smith, who played Prince Philip in Seasons 1 and 2, and quoted his TV wife in the caption: “Well done you!”
In 2020, Carey’s status as foremost fan was cemented when she received a royal red dispatch box to celebrate the release of The Crown’s fourth season. In a video posted to Twitter, she read out a proclamation in her very best British accent, before revealing “the secret surprise” within: a bottle of whiskey and a crystal decanter in which to store it.

Mariah Carey and The Crown — they belong together.
