Not long after their tangle with the Boomboom family in the Devil’s Palm, Gyro, Johnny, and Mountain Tim face new trouble: a captivating terrorist-turned-jockey named Oye, who came to kill Gyro, because he “won’t spare anyone who rides for the King.”
Two years earlier, Oye bombed a carriage belonging to the King of Naples, hoping to assassinate him. Instead, the explosion ended up killing five other people, including two children. Oye escaped execution, fled to America, and passed through the Devil’s Palm, gaining a Stand called “Tic tac boom” — turning anything he touches into an explosive studded with clock-shaped pins that detonate when removed. However, the biggest bomb Oye drops in this episode is about Gyro’s past: he reveals that Gyro’s father is retired and that Gyro has “taken his place as executioner,” even calling him a “Judicial Official” — suggesting that Gyro is no ordinary jockey.
