In the new teaser for jeen-yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy, a young and pre-fame Kanye West is asked by his collaborator Rhymefest, “Who are you to call yourself a genius?” Instead of answering the question, West turns to the camera and gives a sly smile. It’s an illuminating moment that foreshadows West’s astounding career as one of hip-hop’s foremost artists and fashion’s undisputed visionaries.

jeen-yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy, a new documentary film series coming to Netflix in weekly installments on Feb. 16, boasts several hours of never-before-seen footage and behind-the-scenes access of Ye over the course of his career. Shot and edited over a 20-year period by filmmakers Coodie Simmons and Chike Ozah (ESPN 30 for 30’s Benji and the “Jesus Walks” music video), the trilogy is comprised of three films: Vision, Purpose and Awakening. The films hone in on West’s time as a young Chicago rap producer on the brink of fame and follow him as he finds his voice as a rapper and global superstar.

Check out the teaser, which features cameos from Jay Z, Pharrell and many others. If you need more Kanye content, head over to the official film website, jeen-yuhs.com.
