In Hightown, nothing is as it seems. That’s certainly true for hard-partying National Marine Fisheries Service agent Jackie Quiñones (Monica Raymund) when, after a wild night out, she discovers the body of a young woman washed up on the beach. As an investigation ensues, Massachusetts state troopers link the case to a string of opioid-related crimes, and Jackie finds her quiet Provincetown life upended — all while struggling with her own addictions and a murky past that refuses to remain hidden.
Hightown was created by Rebecca Perry Cutter, whose latest show, The Hunting Wives, recently debuted on Netflix’s Top 10. The series stars Monica Raymund in her first role post–Chicago Fire, in which she played the beloved Gabby Dawson. She’s joined by Luis Guzmán, who plays a next-level psycho on par with his Narcos character Gacha.

Jackie Quiñones’s life in Massachusetts isn’t perfect, but at the start of Hightown, she’s got a job in law enforcement, a partner who helps her skirt alcohol-induced infractions at work, and her pick of the women who take over P-town for Carnival every year. But after a typical day on the job issuing warnings to fishermen for overfishing lobster in the beautiful bay, Jackie’s life gets turned upside down. When she goes out that night to revel in the debauchery of Carnival, She finds a body washed up on the beach. Jackie calls the local PD, and photographs the crime scene. But when the police show up, so does the narcotics unit. Sgt. Ray Abruzzo (James Badge Dale) and Sgt. Dohn Norwood (Alan Saintille) tie the body to a shady cartel dealing in opioids and, because Jackie’s the only person who observed the crime scene before the tide washed the evidence away, she’s suddenly caught in the whirlwind of a serious criminal investigation.
Along with being dragged into the case against her will, Jackie’s also heading to rehab to avoid a DUI and keep her post as Marine Fisheries agent. Her partner, Agent Ed Murphy (Mike Pniewski) and close friends want nothing more than for her to come out on the other side, but Jackie’s dark past — and the secrets she’s been keeping — threaten to upend everything. Luckily, she finds a kindred spirit in Sgt. Abruzzo, whose obsession with the case threatens to get him kicked off the force.
