Have you ever wondered if you have what it takes to solve a murder? Now, you can actually find out with the Glass Onion: A Knives Out Experience, an in-person escape room–like adventure, which challenges you and your friends to channel your inner Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) and gives you a tour through the world of Rian Johnson’s upcoming Knives Out sequel.
Premiering on Netflix on Dec. 23, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery takes our favorite Southern supersleuth on a new adventure: this time, to a private island owned by billionaire Miles Bron (Edward Norton), who has gathered his nearest and dearest friends for a murder mystery party.
Among those joining Bron’s getaway are model and fashion mogul Birdie Jay, played by Kate Hudson, and Janelle Monáe’s Andi Brand, the billionaire tech genius’ former business partner. Both actors took a tour of the Glass Onion Experience on Dec. 7 and felt like they’d landed right back on set.
“[This] represents the kind of fun we had making the movie,” Monáe tells Tudum. “A lot of these rooms and puzzles are curated based on our set. A lot of the original pieces are here.”
“We had our ensemble, but you can take your ensemble and bring it into this space,” Hudson says, referring to the film’s all-star cast.
Love escape rooms? Think of this as the ultimate version. Located at 8175 Melrose Ave. in Los Angeles, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Experience allows participants to travel through spaces inspired by the new film’s setting. Each space provides a new obstacle to challenge your investigative skills and powers of deductive reasoning. Step into Miles Bron’s lavish Grecian dining room, tackle a sliding puzzle box as seen in the film’s trailer and see if you can spot a concealed murder weapon in a room full of glass objects. Throughout the immersive event, you’ll be faced with increasingly difficult puzzles to solve. Fail and you lose a member of your group to wander through the dark corridors of Bron’s mansion as you continue on.
As for which fellow cast member Monáe and Hudson would choose to solve a puzzle with, the two didn’t hesitate.
“Kate,” Monáe says. “Very smart and she would keep me grounded.”
“Janelle,” Hudson adds, “because she thinks outside the box.”
Didn’t catch Glass Onion in theaters? No problem. “For people who haven’t seen the movie, it’ll be fun for them to see this [first],” Hudson tells Tudum. “They’re going to get a little taste, but they’re not going to know what’s happening.”
“It’ll all make sense in the end,” Monáe promises.
The event, which launched on Dec. 3, is free and open to the public from 4–10 p.m. every Thursday through Sunday until Dec. 23. Sign up here to sharpen the most lethal weapon of all: your mind.
