Glamorous tells the story of 22-year-old underdog Marco Mejia (Miss Benny), a gender nonconforming person who dreams of being a popular social media influencer, while also making his way through the ruthless, dog-eat-dog beauty industry. Marco’s big break comes in the form of a job from legendary supermodel turned makeup mogul Madolyn Addison, played by the similarly legendary Kim Cattrall.

The sometimes sidesplitting, sometimes soapy and always charming drama debuts on June 22, but you can get an early look at Glamorous’ opening minutes right now.

The series begins with an intimate look at Marco’s life — including a glimpse of the aspiring influencer receiving a critical talking-to from his mother, Julia (Diana Maria Riva), before he heads off to his job at a makeup store in the mall, where he first encounters the one and only Madolyn Addison, setting the stage for the rest of the series.

“I love the opening scene,” Miss Benny tells Tudum. “We establish that Marco is a content creator. We get to see an influencer-type peel back the curtain and see Marco’s real life and that he’s not fully satisfied.”

Miss Benny cites the interaction between Marco and his mother as being particularly resonant. “I love that we established their fiery relationship early on,” she says. “Their relationship is so special to me because I think it’s very relatable to a lot of queer people. And it’s great that we get to see Marco sort of being checked by somebody else, because Marco comes in firing on all cylinders, and then you realize he’s just a kid who’s learning everything and immediately being put in his place by his mom, which is so funny.”

Besides Julia, Marco has another pretty important woman in his life: Madolyn. “For me, being such a big fan of Kim,” Benny says, “it was so easy to play, because I know what it feels like to meet one of your gay icons who you’ve looked up to and they’re giving you a chance to work with them. I think anyone who’s a fan of Kim and Sex and the City will be amazed. And anybody who’s been in a position where they admire somebody so much will absolutely understand why Marco is just starry-eyed about her.”
