But in case you want an expert opinion, here are five series featuring makeup artists who will help you nail your perfect makeup look.





This reality competition series pits 10 aspiring makeup artists against one another in an intense creative battle that pushes the boundaries of how makeup can be transformative. Hosted by supermodel Leomie Anderson and judged by top British MUAs Val Garland and Dominic Skinner, Glow Up: Britain’s Next Make-Up Star shines a light on everything from a minimalist clean girl aesthetic to on-camera makeup to stunning avant-garde editorial looks.

Queer Eye, the feel-good makeover show that already has nine seasons and several international iterations under its belt, became a smash hit for a good reason. Instead of attempting to change people to conform to a certain beauty standard, the Fab Five focus on revealing the inner beauty of each of their hero clients. From clothes and confidence, to hair, makeup, and home renovation, the Fab Five will bring out the best in anyone.

This docuseries examines the historical and cultural changes in the beauty industry through the lens of Black women and makeup artists who have defined Blackness over decades. Has the beauty industry actually embraced a more inclusive outlook? Or are melanated folks still left out of crucial conversations about their own identity, expression, and respectability?

Face Off is a reality competition show with a wild side. While traditional MUAs are focused on beauty, the artists competing on Face Off are prosthetic experts who specialize in creating movie magic. From sci-fi aliens to eldritch horrors, Face Off will make you see makeup in a whole new perspective. The series is judged by Emmy-award winning MUAs from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Avatar, and Underworld: Rise of the Lycans.

When a young, nonbinary makeup influencer Marco Mejia (Miss Benny) gets a once-in-a-lifetime chance to work for legendary makeup mogul Madolyn Addison (Kim Cattrall), they’re thrown into the deep end of the cutthroat cosmetics industry. Can Marco be the change they want to see in the beauty world? Or will corporate politics kill yet another American dream?
