Meet the Explosive Cast of ‘Extraction 2’

Chris Hemsworth is back as Tyler Rake, and he’s bringing along a deadly cast.

    June 16, 2023

It’s been almost three years since Tyler Rake killed a man with a rake. Now the gruff gun for hire is returning for another round of cinematic carnage. That’s right, Chris Hemsworth is back in the long awaited follow-up to Extraction. After barely surviving the events of the first film, Rake is going to have to nurse his wounds on the road, as he battles to get the family of a Georgian gangster out of prison. The new film sees Rake head to colder climes, with plenty of henchmen to fight along the way. Written by The Gray Man co-director Joe Russo, and directed by returning Extraction veteran Sam Hargrave, this is Tyler Rake’s most formidable mission yet. Read on for a briefing on a few of the handsome hired gun’s new enemies and allies, and check out the teaser trailer for Rake’s new mission above.

Where you’ve seen him: Thor, The Avengers, Star Trek, Ghostbusters, Men in Black: International, Blackhat, The Cabin in the Woods
What he has to say about reprising his role as Tyler Rake: “It’s tricky to carry on with a character and not explain his past. So much of the first film was about Rake and the young boy he was rescuing. We touched a little bit on his backstory, and this new film gave us an opportunity to really dig into that and find out why he is the way he is, why he partakes in this line of work and, and what’s behind the pain and the brokenness in this individual. We get to dissect that a bit further and really unravel that history, which was fantastic and a lot of fun.”

What she has to say about Nik’s relationship with Tyler: “Nik is a really special, rare heroine in that she’s a human being and a soldier. She’s not a love interest. She has a deep friendship with Tyler. They’re each other’s family. We have blood family and we have a family we choose throughout the course of life, and Nik and Tyler are like that. They both have an ocean of pain that they swim in, but it’s a pain they’re trying to process and they’re trying to turn it into something else, something positive.”

He loves French haute couture, Italian art — he has this toughness and darkness, but at the same time, he’s enjoying life at every moment.”
