Undercover spy Hamza Ali Mazari, played by Ranveer Singh, is back in the Bollywood blockbuster sequel Dhurandhar: The Revenge. When we last saw Hamza in the action film’s predecessor, Dhurandhar, the post-credit flashback scene reveals Hamza’s true identity — he’s death-row inmate Jaskirat Singh Rangi. Now, it’s time to find out all about Jaskirat’s past as a patriotic youth and what led him to become the vengeful man he is today — a lethal weapon with an axe to grind. Inspired by true events, Dhurandhar: The Revenge was written and directed by Aditya Dhar (Uri: The Surgical Strike) and also stars Akshaye Khanna and Sanjay Dutt. What happens in Dhurandhar: The Revenge

It’s the year 2000, and Jaskirat Singh Rangi is proud to follow in his father’s footsteps and head to basic training for the Indian military. While he’s away, an influential local family attacks the Rangis over a land dispute, brutalizing them. When Jaskirat receives word that the attackers kidnapped his youngest sister, Jasleen (Pandher), he sets off on a mission to rescue her. Armed with weapons he secured with help from his childhood best friend, Pinda (Sandhu), Jaskirat raids the compound where Jasleen is being held and enacts street justice on her attackers. Though Jaskirat frees his sister, he’s sentenced to death for his crimes. Luckily for him, the head of India’s intelligence bureau sees potential in him and offers him a deal: leave his old identity behind and travel to Pakistan under the alias Hamza to infiltrate the criminal organization responsible for a series of devastating terrorist attacks on Indian soil.

Cut to 2009, almost a decade into his assignment, and Hamza has tricked, trapped, or killed all the major players in his way. He now leads the Baloch gang, which rules the city of Karachi, Pakistan. As the new kingpin, his impressive feats — which include rigging a national election — catch the eye of the notorious Bade Sahab (Iqbal). Sahab is the architect of the 2008 Mumbai bombing, and he rules the seedy underbelly of Pakistan. As Hamza prepares to secure his seat in Sahab’s inner circle and gather intel for the Indian government, Pinda suddenly reappears in his life. Their reunion leads to suspicions about Hamza’s true identity that ripple through the criminal network. And now that Hamza is a father and husband, he has a lot more to lose than just his life.
