It’s been more than two decades since Ginger led the denizens (hen-izens?) of Mrs. Tweedy’s chicken farm to freedom, but their story isn’t over yet. In this year’s brand-new sequel Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, the pugnacious poultry return — and this time, they’re breaking in.
When a new threat to all of chicken-kind surfaces across the water from their island sanctuary, Ginger, Rocky and the rest of their poultry pals embark on an epic quest to set things right. Get to know the hen-semble of feathered felons, along with a few words from the voices behind the new film. Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget is now streaming on Netflix.

Newton takes on the role of Ginger, the irrepressible escape artist who planned the original breakout in Chicken Run. Now a mother, she has a very different attitude when it comes to adventure.
“Ginger is finally living her dream, she’s content and all is right with the world,” Newton says. “The biggest change for Ginger is that her and Rocky are now parents, they’ve hatched a little girl called Molly who they adore. Ginger is selfless and caring, and everything she does is for the good of her family and community. However, she soon realizes that her desire for peace and harmony is under threat, what is she to do? Ginger’s story unfolds and it’s exciting to see her character go on that journey!”

Levi plays Rocky, the former circus rooster who fell in love with Ginger and helped the flock escape Tweedy’s farm. He’s a father now, but the Lone Free Ranger still lies in wait below the surface.
“I think Rocky has changed a lot,” Levi says. “He’s no longer the cavalier, hot shot lone wolf that he used to be. He found love in marriage. And even more love in fatherhood. So it’s all settled him down quite a lot. That said, we get glimpses of his former self as our new journey unfolds.”

Ramsey plays Molly, Ginger and Rocky’s adventurous young daughter, whose kidnap kicks off Dawn of the Nugget’s main narrative.
“Molly is an incredibly curious and very intelligent chicken with a huge heart and a strong sense of justice,” Ramsey says. “She has inherited a rebellious wild side from her dad, and determination and all her social skills from her mum.”

Horrocks plays the perennially knitting hen Babs, a role she reprises from the original Chicken Run.
“I’m thrilled to return for number two,” she says. “I’ve been to Bristol and seen some of the sets and early footage, and it looks amazing. I love playing Babs… she has the best lines.”

Staunton plays Bunty, the champion egg-layer whose voice she also provided in the original Chicken Run.
“To be back in the form of Bunty is very nostalgic… And the enthusiasm of our director is palpable!” Staunton says. “I think the audience are in for an absolute treat. I’m glad to say Bunty has lost none of her oomph!”

Playwright and comedian Ferguson voices Mac, Ginger’s brilliant assistant.
“Mac is so completely solution-based,” Ferguson says. “When there’s something that needs to be done, she gets on with it. She might lose her way or worry that the engines can’t handle it, but no matter what, she aims for the solution. She’s really accepting of the others and never holds a grudge. I think that’s a brilliant perspective right now when the world seems full of things that may be unfixable and so full of judgment.”

Sedgwick-Davies plays Frizzle, a new chicken who finds herself in the same predicament as Molly. This is the actor’s first major role.
“The opportunity to work with such an iconic company as Aardman and Sam Fell and just to be part of such an incredible franchise… it’s just boss isn’t it!?” Sedgwick-Davies says. “Being part of Ginger and Rocky’s adventures is one the coolest jobs I’ll ever do, and I’m super proud to represent Liverpool as the world’s first ever Scouse chicken! I hope everyone loves our Frizzle as much as I love voicing her!”

Bradley takes on the role of Fowler from original voice actor Benjamin Whitrow, who passed away in 2017. Fowler is the grizzled Air Force rooster who flew the chickens to safety in the original film.

Prolific comedian Ranganathan plays Nick, one of the chickens’ rodent compatriots. Fletcher, played by Daniel Mays, rounds out the duo. Together, they’re an irreplaceable part of the coop’s latest caper.
“I just couldn’t believe I was going to be involved,” Ranganathan says. “I loved the original so much, and so the opportunity to be in the sequel was genuinely exciting. When I watched the storyboards, I knew that it was going to be a sequel that’d do proper justice to the original — the story is so good — I can’t wait for people to see it. As soon as I agreed to be a part of it, then obviously followed a huge wave of anxiety as I panicked about doing the job properly. My worst nightmare would be my children telling me I ruined the Chicken Run sequel.“

Mays plays Nick’s other half, Fetcher.
“Having long been a fan of Aardman and all the incredible work they do, I’m beyond excited to be joining the sequel to Chicken Run, especially after such a long break since the original,” Mays says. “Nick and Fetcher are the perfect double act to bring to life, and who better to be working alongside than the brilliant Romesh Ranganathan? I’ve loved every minute of it, and like all the Chicken Run fans out there, I can’t wait to watch the finished article!”
