The creators of Game of Thrones are adapting another epic novel series, and they’re bringing along a few familiar faces. The new 3 Body Problem sci-fi series from David Benioff, D.B. Weiss and Alexander Woo (True Blood) just added four new cast members: Jonathan Pryce (The Two Popes), Rosalind Chao (The Laundromat), Ben Schnetzer (Y: The Last Man) and Eve Ridley (Peppa Pig). You’ll have to stay tuned to find out which role each actor is playing.
3 Body Problem is based on the epic Remembrance of Earth’s Past trilogy by Cixin Liu, which follows a futuristic Earth on the verge of war with a neighboring galaxy (a three-star system, the titular 3 Body Problem). What happens when we discover we’re no longer alone in the universe? We’re about to find out. Benioff and Weiss are a fitting team to adapt the novel — Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin himself sang its praises.
Pryce, Chao, Schnetzer and Ridley join a cast that includes Jovan Adepo, John Bradley, Liam Cunningham, Eiza González, Jess Hong, Marlo Kelly, Alex Sharp, Sea Shimooka, Zine Tseng, Saamer Usmani and Benedict Wong.
Liu's first installment in the trilogy, The Three-Body Problem, was the first Asian novel to win the Hugo Award, and its being adapted by a behind-the-camera crew worthy of its prestige. Alongside Benioff and Weiss, the series is co-created by Alexander Woo (True Blood) and produced by talent ranging from Brad Pitt to Rosamund Pike to Rian Johnson. Director Derek Tsang, whose 2019 drama Better Days nabbed an Oscar nomination for best international feature, will co-produce and direct the series. When you put it that way, it doesn’t sound much like a problem at all.
