“In many ways it’s the perfect Christmas tale,” Brian Cox says about That Christmas in a new featurette. In the new film, directed by Simon Otto and written by Richard Curtis (of Love Actually fame), a snowed-in Christmas leads to three intertwined stories in the fictional town of Wellington-on-Sea. “One of the great joys of this film is it is set in the part of England where I’ve spent every Christmas for the last 20 years,” Curtis says. “So it feels like a very personal film.”
Curtis and company brought that personal touch to their holiday tale. “I think there’s a core connection between ourselves and animation,” Otto says. “And when you tell these kinds of stories through animation, you get a different feeling.” Or, in other words: “It’s a real thrill to have been able to make an animated film with so much snow, so much Santa, and I hope, a few jokes and tears as well,” Curtis says. That Christmas is now streaming on Netflix.
