[CLIP] Morgan (Justine Lupe): Um, I think maybe we should take a break.
[CLIP] Joanne (Kristen Bell): Yeah, I think we need to pause the pod.
[CLIP] Morgan (Justine Lupe): No, no, I mean, we should take a break from each other.
[CLIP] Ashley (Sherry Cola): Shouldn't I be consulted in this?
[CLIP] Joanne (Kristen Bell): No.
[CLIP] Morgan (Justine Lupe): No.
[CLIP] Ashley (Sherry Cola): Thoughts and prayers.
Kristen Bell: This season is so fun because I think people are gonna get two love stories out of it. Theyll get the Joanne and Noah, but they really see a lot deeper version of a love story between Joanne and Morgan. There are themes of how much they fight, but also this ferocious sense of loyalty…
Justine Lupe: Mmhmm.
Kristen Bell: … which only siblings can accomplish.
Justine Lupe: Yeah, there's a lot of yelling, a lot of stomping, a lot of walking away in a fit.
Kristen Bell: Eye rolling.
[CLIP] Morgan (Justine Lupe): Why don't you just stop being such a fucking liar?
[CLIP] Joanne (Kristen Bell): You know what, Morgan?
Erin Foster: Morgan starts out annoyed that Joanne is starting to coast a little bit in this relationship. She's trying to poke holes. She's clearly not fulfilled in her own life, and she's feeling abandoned by her sister, who they had the same world views and philosophies, and all of a sudden her sister believes in all these things that they agreed to not believe in.
[CLIP] Morgan (Justine Lupe): Pretending to care about some tradition that none of us wanna be at because you need to prove something to your boyfriend.
Erin Foster: We really see Morgan's petty side, but it's also, there's a lot of pain underneath that.
[CLIP] Morgan (Justine Lupe): What the hell? Are you guys just talking shit about me?
[CLIP] Joanne (Kristen Bell): I mean…
[CLIP] Henry (Michael Hitchcock): Here we go again.
[CLIP] Morgan (Justine Lupe): Fuck you, bitch.
Justine Lupe: A lot of their fighting comes out of advocating for each other. Like, Joanne this season is fighting for Morgan to be in her right mind, and fighting for Morgan to slow down and know herself. Her intention is always coming from a place of love, in the same way that last season, I feel like Morgan had a hard time with Joanne and Noah, but it's because she was kind of heartbroken that her sister was leaving their codependent dynamic and getting into a relationship with a man.
[CLIP] Joanne (Kristen Bell): What else? We're in love.
[CLIP] Morgan (Justine Lupe): Breaking news, you're in a psychotically annoying relationship.
Erin Foster: Growing up in a complicated household, they have only had each other, and she does feel a little bit gaslit by her sister. It's like, "This is who you are now? Where's my partner?" Then, when Joanne and Noah's relationship starts to unravel a little bit, I don't think that is really what Morgan wants for her sister, and so she grabs onto another relationship. She seeks romance in a weird place.
[Jenni Konner laughs]
Erin Foster: In the therapist's office.
[CLIP] Dr. Andy (Arian Moayed): I'm Morgan's therapist.
[CLIP] Morgan (Justine Lupe): Mm.
Justine Lupe: You know how when you're young, and then you grow up, and then you go back home for a family vacation, and all the things that you kind of had going on when you were a teenager, you just go like right back to it? I feel like that's our relationship.
Kristen Bell: Yeah.
Justine Lupe: Which is kind of confronting when you're bringing other people into it because they witness that kind of behavior.
Kristen Bell: The worst parts of yourself.
[CLIP] Morgan (Justine Lupe): I know. Gross.
Kristen Bell: So I can be a complete mean, cruel mess to you, but I know that you'll love me.
Justine Lupe: There's unconditional…
Kristen Bell: And same. Yeah, so you get to see a lot of fire between the two of them because they're forever linked. That's not going anywhere.
[CLIP] Morgan (Justine Lupe): She's still on the phone. Ow!
[CLIP] Joanne (Kristen Bell): We're cutting that.
[CLIP] Morgan (Justine Lupe): Oh my God, you literally broke my finger.
