Ronda Rousey stepped back into the cage for the first time in nearly a decade — against another foundational figure in women’s MMA — and it made waves across the global sports landscape. Rousey faced Gina Carano live on Netflix in a long-discussed superfight years in the making, headlining Netflix’s first-ever live MMA event on May 16 from Intuit Dome in Los Angeles.
The blockbuster fight card that peaked with nearly 17 million viewers globally watching Rousey vs. Carano, also featured Nate Diaz vs. Mike Perry in a bloody welterweight bout, along with the return of former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou, who faced Brazil’s Philipe Lins.

The event marked Netflix’s first live MMA broadcast in partnership with Most Valuable Promotions. The fights took place inside a hexagon cage and streamed globally to Netflix subscribers at no additional cost.
Below, find everything to know about Rousey vs. Carano, including the full fight card.

Ronda Rousey officially weighed in at 142 lbs, while Gina Carano came in at 141.4 lbs ahead of the main event.
The fight was contested at the 145-pound featherweight limit as the two pioneers of women’s MMA headlined Netflix’s first-ever live MMA event from Intuit Dome in Los Angeles.
No. Rousey and Carano met for the first time in a matchup that MMA fans have discussed for years.
Rousey helped transform women’s MMA into a mainstream phenomenon during her dominant run from 2011 to 2016. The Olympic judo medalist became UFC Bantamweight Champion and built a reputation for finishing fights in explosive fashion, often within the opening minute. Beyond MMA, she went on to headline WWE events and star in franchises including Fast & Furious and The Expendables.

“Been waiting so long to announce this,” Rousey said ahead of the fight. “Me and Gina Carano are gonna throw down in the biggest superfight in women’s combat sport history. This is for all MMA fans past, present, and future.”
Carano, often referred to as one of the original stars of women’s MMA, competed from 2006 to 2009 before transitioning into acting with roles in Haywire, Fast & Furious 6, Deadpool, and The Mandalorian. She also headlined the first major MMA event featuring two women in 2009, a landmark moment for the sport.

Though a fight between the two was discussed for years, it never officially came together — until now.
“She thanked me for opening up doors for her career and was respectful in asking for this fight to happen,” Carano recalls. “This is an honor. I believe I will walk out of this fight with the win, and I anticipate it will not come easy, which I welcome.”
Rousey vs. Carano was contested under the Unified Rules of MMA, allowing fighters to use striking, grappling, submissions, and takedowns. Unlike boxing, MMA combines techniques from disciplines including boxing, wrestling, jiu-jitsu, karate, and judo, with fights taking place both standing and on the ground.
