Finally landing that first job out of college can feel like a dream come true… until you realize you’re collating papers no one reads, getting reprimanded for mistakes no one notices, and becoming the go-to for your colleagues’ busywork. Wouldn’t it be great if there was a way to escape it? Like, for example, if an invasive species of undead humans took over your city and started infecting everyone? In the action comedy film Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead, that’s exactly the situation a twentysomething named Akira finds himself in. To capitalize on this unexpected turn of events, he creates a bucket list: 100 things to do before he becomes one of the living dead. Directed by Yûsuke Ishida (Kantaro: The Sweet Tooth Salaryman) and created by Haro Aso (Alice in Borderland), the film follows Akira and his friends as they fend off zombies while attempting to make it all the way through the list.

Akira, fresh out of college, is ecstatic to start his new job at a video production company. Soon, though, he’s pulling all-nighters and is fully at the whims of his horrible boss — and it totally breaks his spirit. So when Akira heads to work one day and sees that zombies have taken over, instead of being afraid, he’s mostly relieved: It’s bye-bye to his toxic job. Upon this revelation, and realizing death (and becoming a zombie) may be imminent, Akira creates a 100-item list of all the things he wants to do before he dies — only, now he has to cross off every item while zombies chase him down. As Akira makes his way through the bucket list, his best friend Kencho and their new pal Shizuka are by his side.
Yes, it’s based on the manga series of the same name by Haro Aso, author of Alice in Borderland — which was adapted into a Netflix series.
The film takes place in cities across Japan.
