Alert Lady Whistledown — the Bridgerton franchise is expanding. An exciting new spin-off has been announced: a limited series following the romance of young Violet and her eventual husband Viscount Edmund Bridgerton, the parents of Bridgerton’s eight beloved siblings. The news comes amidst production of Bridgerton Season 5 in London.
Bridgerton executive producer Shonda Rhimes will co-write, showrun, EP the romantic drama alongside Nicholas Nardini. Shondaland CEO Rhimes previously explored the love life of Lady Violet (Ruth Gemmell), the dowager viscountess of the Bridgerton family. The writer penned Violet’s instantly unforgettable “I am the tea that you are having” scene in Bridgerton Season 4.
Rhimes also created Bridgerton’s first spin-off, Emmy winner Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story.

Similar to the massive global hit Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, the series will chronicle the early life of a young Lady Violet and tell the story of her romance with Viscount Edmund Bridgerton.
Shonda Rhimes and Nicholas Nardini are the writers, showrunners, and executive producers. Bridgerton director Tom Verica and Betsy Beers are also EPs. The Violet spin-off comes from Netflix and Shondaland.
Filming of Bridgerton Season 5 is currently underway. The next season of the flagship drama will follow Violet’s introverted third daughter Francesca (Hannah Dodd) in her second chance romance with bold heiress Michaela (Masali Baduza). The upcoming season follows the massive success of this year’s Season 4, which premiered at No. 1 on the Global English TV list and reached the Top 10 in 92 countries.
Bridgerton Season 6 was also greenlit in May 2025.
