WWE Unreal returns for Season 3 on July 21, and the five-episode documentary promises to show fan-favorite returns, the next generation of rising Superstars, and, of course, John Cena’s monumental goodbye to in-ring performance.

Of the many memorable moments from Cena’s retirement tour, one that stood out came in June 2025, when Punk showed up wearing an oversized jersey, a backwards hat, and a hefty chain, channeling the swagger that made Cena’s “Doctor of Thuganomics” persona iconic. In the segment, Punk doesn’t just imitate Cena, he treats him to a verbal lashing in the form of a surgically precise rhyming rap.

However, as vicious as Punk’s words toward Cena might’ve seemed during the episode of WWE Smackdown, there was also asentimental exchange outside of microphone range. Now, fans can see and hear it for themselves.

In the exclusive clip above, Cena recalls getting a “genuine message from Phil [Punk].”

That message was, “I’m going to miss you.”

While countless fans savored Cena’s final months as a competing Superstar, Punk explained that his words were intended to “center” his longtime rival and “bring him into the moment.” In the clip, Cena momentarily appears moved. “It was emotional for me, and I felt it needed to be emotional for him too,” Punk said.

Cena recalls, “He gave me a very real and authentic moment. And it was very special.”
