Two high school friends with a shared love for music and a dream to make it big: It’s a tale as old as time, but few actually go on to become one of the biggest, brightest and most commercially successful pop sensations of their generation. Enter WHAM!, the new documentary about one of the most important acts of the ’80s — and all the hairspray, crop tops and double snaps that came with them.
WHAM! tells the story of George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley’s rise to fame with never-before-seen footage and previously unheard interviews, much of it from the duo’s personal archives. The film explores the ups and downs of their lives, using their own words to narrate the four-year journey from high school besties to international superstars.
The documentary film from director Chris Smith (Tiger King, Fyre) debuts July 5.
