When you’ve failed to defeat the final boss for the umpteenth time in a row, you might just have to admit defeat and put down the controller. But that doesn’t mean you have to rage-quit and walk away from your favorite video games entirely. Any good adventurer knows it’s dangerous to go alone, and you have options. Upcoming adaptations — like God of War, which just cast Ryan Hurst as Kratos; Tomb Raider, which just gave a first look at Sophie Turner as Lara Croft; and Netflix’s live-action Assassin’s Creed — can fill the void and heal your depleted HP.

There are also plenty of existing game-inspired series out there. Whether you’re looking to trek through ancient ruins, do battle with mutated monsters, leave the “meatspace” behind, or join the fight against the Covenant, these adaptations on Netflix have you covered.

The Witcher

The Witcher is based on Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels, which were also adapted into a video game series of the same name. Netflix’s fantasy drama series follows Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill in Seasons 1–3, with Liam Hemsworth taking over the role in Season 4), a legendary, magically enhanced monster hunter, and the titular Witcher. Years ago, Geralt unknowingly linked himself to Crown Princess Cirilla of Cintra, aka Ciri (Freya Allan), before she was born. When Ciri is a teenager, she’s forced to flee her kingdom and seeks out her uninformed protector — much to his chagrin. The two set out on a quest to keep Ciri’s powerful innate magic from falling into the wrong hands. They’re joined by Geralt’s overeager bard, Jaskier (Joey Batey), and their on-again, off-again ally, sorceress Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra).

Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft

The legendary adventurer and archeologist returns in this animated series created by Tasha Huo (Red Sonja) and starring Hayley Atwell (Agent Carter). Three years ago, Lara Croft (Atwell) and her mentor, Conrad Roth (Nolan North), found an ancient artifact deep in a Chilean ruin. Roth ignored warnings that the object was cursed, and he eventually paid the price, leaving Lara with regret and a hefty dose of survivor’s guilt. In the present, Lara is auctioning off her family’s belongings when Charles Devereaux (Richard Armitage), the leader of a cultlike group known as The Light, steals the artifact and succumbs to its dark power. With the help of her late father’s diary and her friends, Lara vows to track Devereaux down and put a stop to his evil plans.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners

This 10-episode anime is based on the video game Cyberpunk 2077 and set in the larger Cyberpunk universe created by Mike Pondsmith. It follows a group of criminals living in Night City, a dystopian metropolis overrun by gangs and controlled by soulless megacorporations. David Martinez (Kenn) is a student at an elite academy whose destitute background sets him apart from his peers. When he loses what little he has in a tragic accident, he chooses to take to the streets and live as an “edgerunner,” a mercenary for hire.

Halo

Pablo Schreiber (His & Hers) stars in this adaptation of the beloved military sci-fi video game franchise as Master Chief, a genetically engineered supersoldier. In the 26th century, humans have colonized the galaxy and are at war with an alien enemy, the Covenant. When Master Chief is tasked with leading a group of other elite marines to extract human survivors from a colony overrun by the Covenant, he comes across an alien artifact that helps unlock repressed emotions and memories. With help from the AI Cortana (voiced by Jen Taylor), Master Chief begins to question his commanding officers’ goals — and what his role is in the larger fight for humanity’s survival.
