The exact location of the Extraction universe’s next mission has been chosen. Don Lee (The Roundup franchise, Marvel’s Eternals, Train to Busan), Lee Jin-uk (Squid Game, Sweet Home), and Lisa of BLACKPINK (The White Lotus) are headed to South Korea to star in TYGO, an upcoming spin-off film for Netflix.
Part of the Netflix and AGBO Extraction franchise, the thriller follows Tygo, a former child soldier turned mercenary who gets revenge on Korea’s underworld after a mission gone wrong. The project, which has been in development for years, is being produced by Big Punch Pictures and AGBO, with co-production by Nova Film and B&C Content.
“We’re thrilled to explore the world of Extraction through a South Korean lens, teaming up with legendary action star Don Lee and visionary director Lee Sang-yong, whose dynamic choreography exemplifies the world-class craft of Korean cinema,” says Angela Russo-Otstot, producer and chief creative officer of AGBO.
“TYGO brings a distinctly Korean identity into the global Extraction universe,” Don Lee adds. “We can’t wait to unleash its explosive energy on audiences worldwide.”
Accompanying Don Lee on his return to Netflix is Lee Jin-uk. “As a fan of the Extraction franchise, it’s a great honor for me to join this universe,” Lee Jin-uk says. TYGO will also feature Lisa’s first major film role, after making her acting debut in Season 3 of HBO’s The White Lotus. “I’m so honored to be a part of this project and grateful for the opportunity to work alongside such incredible actors,” she says. “Being in an action film has always been a dream of mine, and for my first movie role to be in such an exciting action film is a dream come true.”
The Extraction films are based on the graphic novel Ciudad by Ande Parks, Joe Russo, and Anthony Russo, and they depict search-and-rescue missions around the globe. A new Extraction series starring Omar Sy, Boyd Holbrook and Natalie Dormer was announced earlier this year, and it’ll follow a mercenary navigating warring factions and ruthless killers as he works to save hostages in Libya.
TYGO is the ninth collaboration between Netflix and the Russo brothers’ AGBO, which launched their partnership with Extraction in 2020 and followed up with the sequel Extraction 2 in 2023. Additional titles include The Gray Man and The Electric State.
