The last thing that Noah (Anthony Ramos) expects to deal with when he steals a car in 1994 Brooklyn is, well, for it to be alive. But after he hops into the Porsche for his attempted getaway, the car soon transforms into a robot called Mirage (Pete Davidson). From that moment on, Noah becomes wrapped up in the world of the Transformers. The same goes for Elena (Dominique Fishback), who’s working at a museum when she discovers a mystical key that can open portals in space and time — launching her into a war for the prized artifact between two factions of Transformers: the human-protecting Autobots and the evil Terrorcons. The Autobots must keep the key away from the Terrorcons’ planet-eating boss, Unicron (Colman Domingo). Can Noah, Elena, and the Autobots save humanity? Read on for everything you need to know about director Steven Caple Jr.’s (Creed II) Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, the 2023 time-bending thrill ride, streaming now on Netflix.

What happens in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts?

Noah (Ramos) is an electronics expert struggling to make ends meet. But when he’s convinced by a friend to steal a Porsche, he discovers that it’s the Autobot Mirage (Davidson), a robot from the planet Cybertron. Noah’s at the wrong place at the wrong time, and is subsequently roped into Mirage’s mission to find an ancient Transformers artifact that’ll help the Autobots return to their home planet.

Coincidentally, elsewhere in New York, museum worker Elena (Fishback) discovers said artifact — the Transwarp key, which can open space-time portals. When released, the key radiates energy that can be felt by the Autobot leader, Optimus Prime (Cullen), who calls in a gang of Autobots to recover the key. But that same force also attracts their enemies, the Terrorcons, leading to a fight outside the museum that Elena gets mixed up in.

The Autobots join forces with the Maximals, another faction of Transformers, to fight the Terrorcons — and both Noah and Elena dedicate themselves to helping the anti-Terrorcons crew attempt to restore the key to its rightful place, and thus both save humanity and get the Autobots home.
