Calling all aspiring heroes and antiheroes. It’s almost time to enroll in the School for Good and Evil. A film adaptation of Soman Chainani’s best-selling YA fantasy series, The School for Good and Evil follows best friends Sophie (Sophia Anne Caruso) and Agatha (Sofia Wylie) as they navigate an enchanted school for young heroes and villains — and find themselves on opposing sides of the battle between good and evil.

Chainani will serve as an executive producer and Paul Feig, whose credits include Bridesmaids, Spy, A Simple Favor, and the rebooted Ghostbusters, will direct. (having secured Chainani’s official stamp of approval). “To have one of your favorite directors adapt your book into a film for Netflix is an honor and a dream,” he said in a statement in Variety. “Paul Feig is a brilliant filmmaker and a master of tone — a perfect fit for the twists and turns of The School for Good and Evil.”
Here’s what you need to know before classes start.
Calling this cast magical would be an understatement: We’ll get to see Charlize Theron, Kerry Washington, Michelle Yeoh and Laurence Fishburne as the School’s best and worst deans, professors and headmasters. Theron plays the School for Evil’s Lady Lesso while Yeoh and Washington play the School for Good Professors Anemone and Dovey, respectively. Kit Young, Rachel Bloom, Peter Serafinowicz, Mark Heap and the Patti LuPone will also star.
And as for the rest of the students? Watch out for Jamie Flatters, Freya Theodora Parks, Demi Isaac Oviawe, Kaitlyn Akinpelumi, and Briony Scarlett.
The School for Good and Evil will hit your screen in September 2022.
The key art for the show was released on June 6, giving fans a dramatic first glimpse of what the two dueling schools will look like. In a panel for Geeked Week Chainani said that the visual universe the movie creates is exactly what his imagination led him while writing the series, and that the story of Sophie and Agatha is a departure from a classic hero’s journey.

““I wanted a magical school that felt like a Madonna concert,” Chainani said. “I wanted this high female energy that’s powering the school.”
The School for Good and Evil teaser dropped June 7, and depicts the first thrilling moments when Sophie and Agatha are transported to the school (with bewitching voiceover from Charlize Theron, who plays School for Evil professor Lady Lesso).
