Defense attorney Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) has taken on his fair share of tough cases, but in The Lincoln Lawyer Season 4 trailer, he’s in the trial of — and for — his life. “As proud of the first three seasons as we are, we can say without hesitation that Season 4 is our most personal and emotional season yet,” co-showrunners Ted Humphrey and Dailyn Rodriguez tell Tudum. “It presents the biggest stakes and the biggest challenge for Mickey and his team because now Mickey’s the client.”

After the dead body of Mickey’s former client, a conman named Sam Scales (Christopher Thornton), was discovered in the trunk of the lawyer’s Lincoln at the end of Season 3, he’s fighting to prove his own innocence and preserve his reputation. Or, as Mickey puts it in the trailer above, he’s “the man with the axe.” In the preview, Mickey explains, “Every murder case is like a tree, and it’s the prosecutor’s job to feed and water that tree. I’m going to cut that tree down to the ground.”

Woman in business suit with glasses stands with arms crossed in an office, next to a lamp and wooden-paneled walls, appearing serious and focused.

The prosecutor in question is Dana Berg, portrayed with impeccable intensity by Constance Zimmer. “As a seasoned defense attorney, Mickey has obviously gone up against many of the toughest prosecutors in LA, and, as a longtime prosecutor, Maggie (Neve Campbell) has worked alongside them,” Humphrey and Rodriguez explain. “ ‘Death Row’ Dana Berg is somebody they both have a history with — and it’s not very positive for either of them. She’s earned her name the hard way, by giving no quarter and taking no prisoners. She’s a true believer who has the skill and smarts to put anyone away — and this season, she’s turned those skills on Mickey.”

With the prosecution playing dirty and enemies from Mickey’s past on the inside, he’ll need help from his closest allies, including his ex-wife and fellow fierce attorney, Maggie. “We’re thrilled that Neve Campbell is with us in every episode this season, and we’re excited to see where her relationship with Mickey — both personal and professional — takes them,” says Humphrey and Rodriguez. “She’s got to come to terms with what it means to be helping somebody on the other side of the aisle, when that somebody is Mickey.”

A woman sits at a table with arms crossed, looking serious, while a man in a suit sits across from her and another man stands in the background. The setting appears to be an interrogation room with barred windows.

As in seasons past, Mickey will also look to his other ex-wife, the newly minted lawyer Lorna Crane (Becki Newton), for support. “[Lorna’s] forced to jump into the deep end, both in order to help Mickey with his defense and because Mickey’s case leaves her with the burden of keeping the lights on at Haller and Associates,” Humphrey and Rodriguez share. Plus, office manager Izzy Letts (Jazz Raycole), private investigator Dennis “Cisco” Wojciechowski (Angus Sampson), and Mickey’s mentor David “Legal” Siegel (Elliott Gould) will once again be in Mickey’s corner.

Even though the stake of this case couldn’t be higher, the smooth Los Angeles lawyer seems shockingly optimistic — at least at first. “I’m being framed for murder, how much worse could it get?” he casually asks Lorna and Cisco in the trailer. “In terms of his emotional state, Mickey’s putting on a very brave front for his team, his family, and himself,” say Humphrey and Rodriguez. “But it doesn’t take long before the cracks begin to show and the gravity of the situation hits home.”

In the face of all this pressure, will Mickey Haller be able to maintain his drive for justice? For now, the jury’s still out. See how the trial unfolds by streaming The Lincoln Lawyer Season 4 on Netflix Feb. 5.
