A Mexican Confection Nearly Takes Out Justin Chien in The Brothers Sun Bloopers

    Beware of the churro dust.

    Jan. 11, 2024

Of the many dangers of the martial arts madness of The Brothers Sun, one particular hazard stands alone: churro dust.

In an exclusive behind-the-scenes blooper reel, Justin Chien — who plays eldest Sun brother, Charles — cracks open a crispy delicious churro only to be reverse Salt Bae-d with a scattershot of sugar and cinnamon straight to the eyes. Don’t worry, Chien survived… barely.

But that’s not the only on-set calamity revealed in the blooper reel. Sam Song Li, who plays Bruce, the younger Sun, becomes engorged with an internal burp cloud and then releases a noxious waft that resounds within his Nissan.

Then there’s Li trying to smash a childproof plastic chair — perhaps an attempt to re-create his brother’s murderous moniker “Chairleg” — but the chair fights back, nearly impaling him with its bouncy aquamarine safety plastic body. It’s terrifying. And adorable.

But nothing compares to the adorable terror that comes next.

It’s a pleasant day on the campus of Cal State San Gabriel, when from out of nowhere, an extremely irritable june bug swoops down upon Madison Hu (Grace) and Li who can do nothing but flee for their very lives.

We hope the bug got its first IMDb credit.

Watch the hilarious reel above. The Brothers Sun is available to stream now.
