When a regional director of a luxury brand moves to Seoul, she secures gutsy business deals that make her the talk of the town. She’s poised to become one of the most sought-after members of Korean high society — until one night when her body is discovered in a sewer. Will the dogged detective assigned to her case be able to solve the murder, even if the victim’s life was built on lies? The Art of Sarah is a mystery thriller K-drama produced by Kim Jin-min (My Name) and written by Chu Song-yeon. The mercurial mystery series stars Shin Hae-sun (Welcome to Samdal-ri) and Lee Jun-hyuk (Designated Survivor: 60 Days), reunited for the first time since 2017’s Stranger.

What happens in The Art of Sarah?

There’s a new odd duckling amongst Korean’s richest and most influential. American-born Sarah Kim (Shin) is the incoming regional director of the luxury brand Boudoir, a label so exclusive it only sells to the top 0.1%. Despite being new to the game, her defiance of societal standards combined with her ability to move through the most exclusive spaces attracts a lot of attention from her conservative, old-money peers. When she unexpectedly befriends NOX CEO Jeong Yeo-jin (Park), Sarah brokers a collaboration with her that will take both their brands to the next level. But before the two can claim their place as the crème de la crème of Korean society, Sarah — or a body that appears to be Sarah based on her one-of-kind luxury bag — turns up dead in storm grate outside Seoul’s busiest mall.

The stoic and methodical Detective Park Mu-gyeong (Lee) is assigned to the case, but what he finds isn’t just a random robbery victim. (After all, Sarah’s custom bag was left behind with the body.) What he discovers is a fractured portrait of a passionate career woman who’d do anything to make her luxury business a success — even if it means adopting deception as a core business strategy. Every person he interviews about Sarah, from her employees to her only friend, reveals a troubling new facet of the business tycoon, which muddies the killer’s true motive. When Mu-gyeong finds shady financial transactions in both Yeo-jin and Boudoir’s accounts, he’ll need all his expertise to untangle the web of deception surrounding the murder of Sarah Kim.
