The first look at Tall Girl 2 is finally here — and it’s giving us growth (the figurative kind). Last time we saw Jodi (Ava Michelle), our resident tall girl, she delivered an inspiring speech at homecoming and got the rom-com-worthy kiss from Dunkleman (Griffin Gluck). Now she’s no longer just the tall girl — she’s also popular, confident, has a boyfriend and is the lead in this year’s school production of Bye Bye Birdie. We might not have gotten the NBC live version starring J. Lo, but Jodi is here to save the day for theater kids.
In this coming-of-age sequel, Jodi continues to navigate the social pressures of high school — particularly when it comes to newfound popularity and all the insecurities around it. In the process, Jodi forms new bonds while old relationships are tested. According to the trailer, one of those budding connections is a possible showmance between Jodi and her co-star in Bye Bye Birdie Tommy (Jan Luis Castellanos). Will a possible love triangle ensue between Jodi, Dunkleman (Griffin Gluck) and Tommy? Only time will tell when the curtains rise.
Thankfully, Jodi will still have her shorter older sister Harper (Sabrina Carpenter) and bestie Fareeda (Anjelika Washington) by her side as she learns to mute the voice of doubt inside her head. Also returning to the sequel are Luke Eisner, Clara Wilsey, Angela Kinsey and America’s favorite dad Steve Zahn. For Jodi, standing tall was just the beginning, but the real lessons await when Tall Girl 2 premieres Feb. 11.
