What kind of game is Storyteller?

Storyteller uses drag-and-drop style of puzzle gameplay that sees its many characters and story beats as building blocks for its dynamic tales. With each new chapter, the storybook presents prompts based on fairy tales and murder mysteries that you must make sense of, such as “The Queen Gets Married” or “The Detective Arrests the Murderer.” It’s up to you to build the plot by placing characters and story action onto the page — where and when characters and actions come into play is all up to you. 

One chapter focuses on a would-be usurper taking the throne of a kingdom. Over the course of the chapter, you build the narrative of how they accomplish their goal in a story beat, with the following beats resolving how this evil character gets their comeuppance — such as a noble knight coming to save the day or perhaps the spirit of a slain queen returning from beyond the grave.

With well over 60 different stages across 14 chapters, your choices will determine how each act and chapter will flow. The larger connective threads running through the entire book weave together, leading to one of several twist endings.

Is Storyteller a challenging game?

Storyteller is often relaxed, but it can get challenging to devise solutions and craft plots, especially with the many prompts and building pieces toward the back end.
