Calling all members of the Grishaverse: The second season of Shadow and Bone is officially in production, and we have some faces to put to some very familiar names. Four brand-new castmates will join the show’s already stacked lineup, and several Season 1 alums will play even more prominent roles in the show’s next installment.
Joining Alina’s (Jessie Mei Li) roster of friends and foes will be Nikolai Lantsov (Patrick Gibson), a Ravka royal and privateer also known as Sturmhond. Anna Leong Brophy and Lewis Tan will also join the cast as Tamar Kir-Bataar and Tolya Yul-Bataar, twin Heartrenders, skilled fighters and members of Sturmhond’s armada who become close allies to Alina. Finally, Jack Wolfe will play Wylan, a fan-favorite Six of Crows character who joins forces with Crow Club members Kaz (Freddy Carter), Inej (Amita Suman) and Jesper (Kit Young).
Shadow and Bone merges two bestselling Leigh Bardugo series set in the Grishaverse: the Shadow and Bone trilogy, which focuses heavily on Alina’s story, and the Six of Crows duology, which takes place two years later (and in another fictional country). Season 1 follows the events of Shadow and Bone, but also introduces fans to Kaz, Inej and several other Six of Crows faves — including Nina (Danielle Galligan) and Matthias (Calahan Skogman) — with an all-new Crows prequel storyline.
What does this mean for Season 2? Basically, we’ll dive deeper into Kaz and the crew’s adventures as they unfold in the Six of Crows series, with Nina and Matthias both taking on larger roles. Daisy Head, who plays the morally dubious tailor Genya, has also been elevated to series regular.
In other words, there’s a lot to look forward to. And a lot to fear, since — as we learn in the Season 1 finale — the Darkling (Ben Barnes) is alive, stronger than ever and absolutely set on revenge.
