Sam Elliott won the award for outstanding performance by a male actor in a television movie or limited series at the 29th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards on Sunday.
Presented with the award by Jenna Ortega and Aubrey Plaza, the 1883 actor was visibly shocked to find himself taking the stage. “I’m not even sure I should be standing up here," he joked. “I'm sure I'll get over that.”
Elliott, who plays Shea Brennan in Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone prequel, thanked his peers for granting him what he called “the most meaningful acknowledgment of my 55-year career.”

“I'm going to treasure this guy, this gal,” he said, “because it comes from all of you, my brothers and sisters from SAG-AFTRA. I'll treasure it as a constant reminder of 1883 and what a gift it was to all of us on both sides of the camera.”
In winning the SAG Award, handed out Sunday night in a ceremony broadcast live on Netflix’s YouTube channel, Elliott beat out fellow nominees Steve Carell (The Patient), Taron Egerton (Black Bird), Paul Walter Hauser (Black Bird) and Evan Peters (DAHMER — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story).
