Ronaldinho Documentary Explores the Life and Career of a Brazilian Soccer Legend

The three-part series traces Ronaldinho’s journey from prodigy to one of the greatest players in history.

Netflix is kicking off a busy summer of soccer early with the release of a new documentary series on one of the greatest players of all time.

Ronaldinho: The One and Only follows the life and career of the Brazilian soccer legend Ronaldo de Assis Moreira — known simply as Ronaldinho — tracking his journey from young prodigy to global sports icon.

Premiering April 16, the three-part documentary features exclusive access to Ronaldinho’s private life and never-before-seen archival footage, revisiting the victories and defeats throughout his career, on and off the pitch.

Ronaldinho Gaúcho smiling and wearing glasses stands in a trophy room filled with numerous awards and medals displayed in glass cases and on shelves, with several golden soccer trophies prominently on a table in the foreground.

Who is Ronaldinho?

One of the most decorated and revered soccer stars in the world, Ronaldinho is the only player to win a World Cup, a Copa América, a Confederations Cup, a Champions League, a Copa Libertadores, and a Ballon d’Or.

Ronaldinho’s storied career includes unparalleled success with the Brazilian national team and clubs Paris Saint-Germain, FC Barcelona, AC Milan, Flamengo, and Atlético Mineiro, among others.

Lionel Messi and Ronaldinho Gaúcho in training bibs stand close together, one with his arm around the other. They are on a practice field, dressed in athletic gear, and appear to be listening to a coach during a team training session.

Who else is in Ronaldinho: The One and Only?

Beyond the exclusive access to Ronaldinho, the documentary series features interviews and testimonials from global soccer icons such as Lionel Messi, Neymar Jr., Roberto Carlos, Carles Puyol, and Galvão Bueno.

The team behind Ronaldinho: The One and Only

Ronaldinho: The One and Only is a co-production by Canal Azul and Trailer Films, directed by Luis Ara, who also serves as executive producer alongside Ricardo Aidar and Liz Reis. Ara also directed, wrote, and produced the upcoming documentary USA 94: Brazil’s Return to Glory, the story of Brazil’s fourth World Cup title won in 1994.

More Soccer on Netflix

The critically acclaimed sports documentary series UNTOLD recently expanded its borders to highlight the world of English soccer through the stories of unlikely Premier League legend Jamie Vardy, Liverpool’s miraculous 2005 Champions League–winning team, and controversial professional player turned actor Vinnie Jones.

Additional soccer content on Netflix includes Under Pressure: The U.S. Women’s World Cup Team, which documents the squad’s effort to win the 2023 title; the Emmy-nominated Beckham; Captains of the World, a José Mourinho episode of The Playbook; and Vini Jr.

Netflix will exclusively broadcast the FIFA Women’s World Cup in the United States and Canada for the 2027 and 2031 tournaments.
