Have you ever wondered when the Pogues actually find time to shower and change their clothes? It certainly isn’t easy when they’re constantly on the run from enemies in pursuit of gold. But on Thursday night, the Outer Banks cast proved that Pogues are capable of showing out in style at the Season 3 premiere in Los Angeles. The Regency Village Theater was transformed into an Outer Banks beach with a sandy tan carpet, lawn chairs, a sunset backdrop and even empty red solo cups. (Don’t tell Sheriff Shoupe!)
Luckily, no fights between the Pogues and the Kooks broke out. Unlike their characters, it was all love for the Outer Banks cast since this was their first in-person “red” carpet event together due to COVID safety protocols. “First of all, the fan show-out has been amazing,” Jonathan Daviss, who plays Pope, told Tudum. “Seeing all these amazing people who like our show and want to support it and are excited about the season is just crazy to me. I’m happy to be here with my friends — this cast of people who I’ve gotten so close to over the years. It’s a blessing.”
Despite playing a ruthless character on the show, Drew Starkey showed off a softer side that fans don’t get to see from Rafe. “I want to strangle him too sometimes,” he joked. It was a happy family reunion for him and Julia Antonelli, who plays his younger sister, Wheezie, as they shared a sibling hug and complimented each other’s outfits. “I always think that Drew is almost like my older brother in a way,” said Antonelli on the carpet. “He reminds me so much of [him].” On second thought, she added with a chuckle, “OK, he doesn’t remind me of Rafe. Rafe is a murderer.”

It’s clear that the stakes are much higher in Season 3, especially after last season’s major cliff-hanger ending that revealed John B’s (Chase Stokes) dad is actually still alive. Big John, portrayed by Charles Halford, even made an appearance at the event after being lost at sea in the series. “It’s action-packed, suspenseful, surprising and everything that I think the fans love and expect from Outer Banks,” Halford teased. “There’s a lot of depth to John B and Big John’s relationship that’s never really been explored. There’s just been his memory of his father, and then he’s back and we’ve got stuff to do.”

Season 3 isn’t the only thing the cast has to look forward to. This weekend, Netflix is hosting Poguelandia, an Outer Banks fan experience in Huntington Beach, California. The Feb. 18 event includes music performances from alt-J, Lil Baby, Khalid and more — as well as cast appearances, beach games and Outer Banks–themed food and drinks. When asked who he was most excited to see perform, Daviss replied with zero hesitation. “Lil Baby! What are you talking about? It’s Lil Baby,” he said, laughing. Starkey agreed with his co-star. “Lil Baby, alt-J, Khalid and then The Nude Party too,” he said. “I’m just excited to see live music.”
Check back with Tudum for more out of Poguelandia, and lace up your best sneakers, Pogues, because the adventure continues when Outer Banks Season 3 premieres on Feb. 23.
