The Season 3 finale of Nobody Wants This is supposed to transform Joanne (Kristen Bell) forever. And it does — just not in a way she or her partner, Noah (Adam Brody), ever expected. The couple step onto the Malibu sand as fiancés, but they end Episode 10 as spouses.

That’s right: Noah and Joanne are married! Initially, the trip to the beach was meant to be the final step in Joanne’s conversion to Judaism. However, it ends up hosting another sacrament, too. Nobody Wants This’s co-showrunners confirm, Joanne and Noah end Season 3 as husband and wife.

“They’re married,” says creator and executive producer Erin Foster. “I’m so happy!”

There are quite a few people the newlyweds need to tell, like their families, who are busy squabbling back at the Malibu mansion. Esther (Jackie Tohn) learns that her estranged husband (and Noah’s brother), Sasha (Timothy Simons), slept with Joanne’s sister, Morgan (Justine Lupe), during their New York excursion. Meanwhile, Morgan finds out Sasha hooked up with Esther the previous day. And both sets of parents are bickering.

Amid the family drama, Noah and Joanne decide to wed after the latter’s mikvah. Noah asks Rabbi Eden (Sarah Silverman) to marry them on the beach. She happily agrees, and they jump into execution mode. They have everything they need: celebration wine at the ready, a nonfamilial witness walking his dog on the beach, and a ketubah (Jewish wedding contract) in the trunk of Eden’s car. In the final seconds of Episode 10, Eden kicks off the ceremony as Joanne and Noah hold each other, while “My Kinda Love” by Stella Lefty and Bailey Zimmerman plays.

“They’re married in the eyes of God,” co-showrunner and EP Jenni Konner explains, “but not in the eyes of anyone else yet.”

So what’s going on with the couple’s loved ones as they’re getting married on the beach? Keep reading to find out.

How does Season 3 end for the rest of the characters in Nobody Wants This?

Big secrets and long-held feelings are revealed at the Malibu house. Here’s a recap of how the season ends for Joanne and Noah’s nearest and dearest:

Morgan

After the highs of her Episode 7 trip to the Big Apple, Morgan finds herself in a tough spot. She abandons Sasha in New York, so he pushes her away upon returning to Los Angeles. “When there’s any kind of vulnerability required to keep going down a path, or any kind of risk or sacrifice, she backs off of it,” Lupe explains. But now she realizes she doesn’t want to “half-ass” their relationship. In fact, Morgan may actually love Sasha.

Unfortunately, he rejects the possibility of a romantic future with Morgan after she leaves him in NYC. Still, their connection is undeniable in Episode 10. When Morgan hurts her ankle, it’s Sasha who carries her around. Of course, he also drops her on the ground when Esther discovers their New York hookup. So Morgan is understandably displeased as the finale comes to an end.

The last time we see Morgan, she’s icing her ankle on the deck of the Malibu house, taking note of Sasha and Esther’s heated discussion.

Sasha

The elder Roklov brother also finds himself in a difficult situation by Episode 10. Unlike Morgan, Sasha recognizes his crush on her early in the season. He’s obviously pleased when Morgan gifts him “the Love Card” in Episode 5 and, freaked out by that feeling, attempts to avoid her in Episode 6 to let things fizzle. But denial is pointless, and their mounting attraction culminates in the New York hookup — only for Morgan to leave Sasha behind.

As Sasha explains in Episode 8, he doesn’t feel emotionally safe pursuing a relationship with Morgan. Following the end of his marriage, he can’t handle the possible catastrophe of a romance with Morgan. She’s his best friend. And his future sister-in-law. There’s too much at stake.

When Esther shows up at Sasha’s bachelor pad in Episode 10, his lingering feelings for his wife come to the surface. Esther is impressed by the maturity of Sasha’s space and his thoughtful parenting. They hook up the day before Joanne’s mikvah.

Unfortunately for Sasha, all of his intimate secrets are spilled at the Malibu house. He ends Season 3 trying to convince Esther that nothing untoward was happening with Morgan prior to the New York visit.

Esther

At the end of Season 2, Esther said she wanted to grow. In Season 3, she makes good on that promise. She pursues her real estate career, gets on dating apps, and even finds a nice guy the old-fashioned way. Enter Julian (Steven Weber), Esther’s wealthy client turned new beau. Esther finds a new side to herself with Julian, who’s a bit older and extremely self-assured.

Things are going so well for Julian and Esther that the two define the relationship in Episode 8. They’re officially boyfriend and girlfriend.

There’s one small issue in Episode 10: Esther and Sasha’s hookup. It’s unclear whether Julian knows Esther slept with the man who is still, technically, her husband — or how he would react to the news.

Lynn and Henry

Joanne and Morgan’s mom simply cannot live with secrets. After all, she believes they’re “the root of disease!” Naturally, Lynn (Stephanie Faracy) is the one who reveals what happened between Sasha and Morgan to Esther and the rest of the Roklov family.

When tension runs high, Lynn and her ex-husband, Henry (Michael Hitchcock), close ranks. It’s a welcome change, since so much of Joanne and Morgan’s childhood was defined by parental conflict. After Bina (Tovah Feldshuh) says some unkind things about their daughters, Henry and Lynn team up to hurl insults at her and the Champagne Society.

Bina and Ilan

The heads of the Roklov family come a long way in Season 3. Bina lets Joanne wear a family heirloom tiara, while Ilan (Paul Ben-Victor) agrees to step aside to let Sasha lead the business. The couple handle the news of Sasha’s separation as well as can be expected.

Drama ensues when the Morgan-Sasha-Joanne love triangle is uncovered. Bina ends the season by telling Lynn she has no more sons for Lynn’s daughters to corrupt. Oh, family!
