





You don’t need to work that hard to chase down this week’s new trailers for Netflix’s upcoming movies and series. It’s best to leave the hunt to the stars of Apex, Charlize Theron and Taron Egerton, who will duke it out in the Australian wilderness in director Baltasar Kormákur’s new action thriller. The film’s trailer is joined this week by the first looks at comedies like Running Point Season 2 — in which Kate Hudson returns as Los Angeles Waves manager Isla Gordon — and several documentaries, including A Gorilla Story: Told by David Attenborough.
The celebrated naturalist brings his trademark zeal to the multigenerational tale of Pablo the silverback gorilla. But if you’re looking for docs with a bit more grit, the trailers for Untold: Jail Blazers, Untold: The Shooting at Hawthorne Hill, and Should I Marry a Murderer? should intrigue you. And creator Julie Gearey’s fictional series Unchosen — starring Molly Windsor, Asa Butterfield, and Fra Fee — is inspired by former cult members’ real-life stories.
If you want some animation, Matt and Ross Duffer’s Stranger Things follow-up, Stranger Things: Tales From ’85, dives back in with the Hawkins gang as they uncover a frigid new mystery. Alkhallat+: The Series is an offbeat Saudi Arabian comedy anthology series, created by Ali Kalthami and Mohammed Algarawi (Night Courier), set in the same wild, unpredictable world of the 2023 movie of the same name. Each episode — spanning from the desert to the city — is a completely different story with its own twist, characters, and chaos, and stars Mohammed Aldokhei (The Fakenapping), Malik Nejer (Masameer County), and Ziyad Alamri (Head to Head).

This documentary explores the lives and scandals of the early 2000s Portland Trail Blazers — a team unlike any other. The roster was stacked with All-Stars and undeniable talent, and the team was poised to make their mark on the NBA. But while their on-court performances dazzled fans, their off-court lives became the subject of seemingly countless controversies and relentless media attention.

Legendary naturalist David Attenborough leads this intimate documentary in which he recalls his first encounter with a three-year-old gorilla named Pablo. Attenborough calls that first interaction almost 50 years ago possibly “the most important sequence … in my filmed life.” But when Pablo was 18, he broke away to create a new group. This doc — from the co-director of Oscar winner My Octopus Teacher and the Emmy-winning creators of Our Planet — explores his and Attenborough’s shared legacy, and features gorilla behavior never filmed before.

Rosie (Molly Windsor) lives in a cloistered Christian community where women are bound to follow their male leaders without question. Her relationship with her husband, Adam (Asa Butterfield), is less than perfect, and she fears for her daughter’s future. Rosie’s world is turned upside down when Sam (Fra Fee), an escaped prisoner, breaks the mold and asks for the group’s help. But will Sam’s dark past prove more dangerous than any cult? This six-episode series, created and written by Julie Gearey (Intergalactic), draws inspiration from the real-life experiences of former cult members and also stars Siobhan Finneran (The Stranger) and Christopher Eccleston (28 Days Later).

This true crime documentary unpacks the 2019 events after retired Olympic equestrian Michael Barisone took on a new dressage student, Lauren Kanarek, at his idyllic farm in New Jersey. Over time, tensions mounted between the two, leading to 911 calls, cryptic social media posts, and accusations of harassment. The feud, as seen in this film, culminated in a headline-making act of violence and a trial that rocked the prestigious dressage world.

To get out of a prison sentence, a math genius and small-time crook, Eddy (Alexandre Kominek), goes undercover as a high school teacher. The police have tasked him with identifying the son of a major criminal, but surviving the day-to-day challenges of teaching teenagers might prove more dangerous than any run-in with drug traffickers.

Kate Hudson (Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery) returns in Running Point Season 2 as Isla Gordon, the general manager of the underdog basketball team the Los Angeles Waves. Isla’s plans for a stronger sophomore season go awry when her wayward brother Cam (Justin Theroux) returns early from rehab. While Cam claims he’s happy to sit back and let his little sis keep hold of the reins, Isla suspects he has ulterior motives. Can this reformed party girl and her other brothers Ness (Scott MacArthur), Sandy (Drew Tarver), and Jackie (Fabrizio Guido) keep the chaos under control? Or will the buzzer sound before they can achieve greatness? Brenda Song (BLUE EYE SAMURAI), Chet Hanks (Your Honor), and Jay Ellis (In a Relationship) also reprise their roles in this comedy series, created by Mindy Kaling (Never Have I Ever).

This animated series from Eric Robles (Glitch Techs, The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy) and executive produced by the Duffer Brothers follows Eleven (voiced by Brooklyn Davey Norstedt), Mike (Luca Diaz), Will (Benjamin Plessala), Dustin (Braxton Quinney), Lucas (Elisha “EJ” Williams), and Max (Jolie Hoang-Rappaport) in the winter of 1985. The series, set in the Stranger Things universe between Seasons 2 and 3, sees the party uncover something terrifying beneath the ice. It’s up to our crew to solve the mystery and save Hawkins.
