Funnyman Nate Bargatze hosted the Emmys for the first time this year. His stint for the 77th awards gala began not with a traditional monologue, but with a sketch about the invention of television. The Southern comic starred  alongside Saturday Night Live’s Bowen Yang and Mikey Day — and the three delivered some skewering of the streaming landscape. Bargatze’s no stranger to being featured on streaming platforms, where he’s been heavily featured in his many specials — several of which you can watch right now. Read on to learn more about all of Bargatze’s Netflix appearances.

Nate Bargatze: The Tennessee Kid

In this 2019 special, Bargatze’s first for Netflix, the comedian talks cheap weddings, the perils of ordering coffee, and how to move a dead horse.

“That’s a huge thing dying in your yard,” Bargatze says in the special, contemplating what to do when there’s a dead horse in your yard. “You can’t just scoot it off into the woods with your foot, and try to get another one that matches before the kids come home. You have to tell your wife to keep the kids away for a month. You gotta google ‘how to move a dead horse.’ ”

Nate Bargatze: The Greatest Average American

Bargatze premiered his second Netflix special in 2021, about a year after the COVID-19 lockdown went into full swing. The comic talks about doing stand-up on Zoom, touches on Zoom comedy shows, losing his phone while traveling, and animal caddies.

“You know who that’ll hurt the most, the cough in public? My parents … they cough everywhere. My dad’s choking constantly,” Bargatze says in his routine about the COVID-inflamed faux pas of coughing in public. “If he’s not choking, that’s when we get worried…. We go to a restaurant, they’re like, “Is your dad OK?” I’m like, ‘Yeah, that’s just what he does.’ ”

Your Friend, Nate Bargatze

In his third Netflix special, which debuted in 2024, Bargatze talks about his past as a water-meter reader, relying heavily on his uber-responsible wife, and wanting to get a second dog.

“To be honest, I’ve never taken care of the one dog we have, but two? Two would be fun,” Bargatze says in the special. “Our dog sleeps in our bed. Someone told me you’re not supposed to do that, ’cause you lose dominance over the dog…. I asked him, I said, ‘What year do you think it is?’ These are all doodles. They’re barely dogs. It’s a person. They’re people.”

Brad Paisley's Comedy Rodeo

In this variety show that’s part comedy jam and part music special, country musician Brad Paisley hosts a night of performances, featuring comics including Bargatze as well as John Heffron, Jon Reep, Sarah Tiana, and Mike E. Winfield.

The Standups

Bargatze was featured in the first episode of this series that highlights both rising and established stand-up comedians, each with their own half-hour special. The LA-based show is jam-packed with jokes, featuring comics like Rachel Feinstein, Kyle Kinane, Joe List, Brent Morin, Aparna Nancherla, Gina Yashere, Deon Cole, Fortune Feimster, and Nikki Glaser.
