First, we threw a 50th anniversary bash for movies released in 1974. Then, a 40th fete for movies from 1984 and a 30th for 1994 films. And now, as this year gets closer to its own last call, we’re embarking on a 20th anniversary tour back to the 2000s.
That’s right, it’s time for the fourth edition of Netflix’s 2024 Milestone Movies: The Anniversary Collection, this time celebrating films that were released in 2004.
Milestone Movies first launched in January to celebrate films marking major anniversaries this year — award winners, guilty pleasures, and cult classics among them. The films now streaming in the US include Before Sunset, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Million Dollar Baby, The Notebook, and Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.
The first round of Milestone Movies, highlighting films released in 1974, included Blazing Saddles, Chinatown, and The Conversation. Then the clock rolled forward to 1984 films like A Nightmare on Elm Street, Sixteen Candles, and Beverly Hills Cop. And when it was time to turn our attention to the ’90s — yes, somehow 1994 was 30 years ago — the lineup had Reality Bites, Dumb and Dumber, Muriel’s Wedding, and Clerks.
In addition to these cinematic celebrations in your Netflix queue, in-person special screenings of select films will continue at the Paris Theater in New York and Los Angeles’ Egyptian Theatre and Bay Theater. No matter where you do your milestone marking, just don’t forget: The perfect gift for movie anniversaries is always popcorn.
