After you watch this stand-up set, you’re going to understand who Mo’Nique really is. That’s what the comedian promises at the start of her new special, My Name Is Mo’Nique — her first since Mo’Nique’s: Something Different (2016). In her return to the stage at the Rialto Center for the Arts in Atlanta, she delves into her life story — overcoming adversity, how she figured out she was “special,” her rise to fame (aka “boss-bitch mode”), keepin’ it sexy with her husband, some choice sex advice from her grandma — and much more.
Mo’Nique is best known for starring in the sitcom The Parkers, the stand-up comedy film The Queens of Comedy and in the movie Precious, for which she won Oscar, BAFTA, Golden Globe and SAG awards. Most recently, she starred in the 2023 horror film The Reading. The special, written by Mo’Nique and her husband, producer Sidney Hicks (The Reading, Blackbird), was directed by L. Frazier (Mike Epps: Don’t Take It Personal).
