Love is in the air this spring in the new Japanese romantic film Love Like the Falling Petals. The trailer is here, and you’ll want to buckle up for the emotional roller coaster. Based on the novel Sakura no Yona Boku no Koibito by Keisuke Uyama, the drama stars actor Honoka Matsumoto and J-pop idol and actor Kento Nakajima.
Haruto (Nakajima) used to dream of being a photographer, but for years he’s kept his creative passion on the back burner— that is, until he falls head over heels for his hairstylist, Misaki (Matsumoto). She’s hardworking and goal-oriented, which Haruto is not. After asking Misaki out, her determination rubs off on him and Haruto is inspired to pick up the camera once again. Just as their relationship seems to be blossoming, things take a turn when Misaki contracts a rare disease that makes her age much faster. Facing the reality of being unable to pass the years at the same speed, Haruto and Misaki must decide how they’ll walk together into the future.
As if the trailer weren’t already emotional enough, we also get a sneak peek of the film’s original theme song, written and performed by the hit Japanese group Mr. Children. Will Haruto and Misaki’s tale end happily ever after? You don’t have to wait too much longer to find out: Love Like the Falling Petals starts streaming on March 24.
