Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson Was the Most Streamed Sporting Event in History

Around the world, over 108 million viewers tuned in live to watch the epic showdown — here’s everything to know about the fight.

It was a record-breaking boxing spectacle for the ages, and it all happened live on Netflix. For the first time ever, Netflix and Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) teamed up for a boxing mega-event headlined by Jake “El Gallo de Dorado” Paul versus The Baddest Man on the Planet, Mike Tyson. The event streamed live on Netflix on Friday Nov. 15 from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, where a total of 72,300 total attendees gathered to witness the historic fight card. At home, streaming peaked at 65 million concurrent streams watching around the world, with 38 million concurrent streams in the United States.

In the main event, Jake Paul and Mike Tyson entered the ring to slug it out in a heavyweight bout for eight two-minute rounds. Tyson showed signs reminiscent of his life as a champion throughout the fight, while Paul landed clean shots in several rounds to give him the edge with the judges. In the end, Paul was declared the winner by unanimous decision.

Taylor-Serrano 2 was also a record-breaking fight. The co-main event was the most-watched professional women’s sports event in US history, with an estimated 74 million live viewers globally. Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano fought a brutal 10-round rematch for the undisputed super lightweight world championship. Serrano delivered more punches, while Taylor countered effectively. A fourth-round head collision left Serrano with a cut above her right eye. In the end, Taylor defended her title as the undisputed super lightweight champion of the world after all three judges scored the bout 95-94 in her favor.

UNDERCARDS

In an electrifying WBC Welterweight Championship bout, reigning champion Mario “El Azteca” Barrios maintained his title against Abel Ramos by way of a split draw after 12 full rounds. The pair threw a combined 1,500 punches during the bout.

Barrios is a rising star in the world of boxing, known for his fierce fighting style and deep connection to his Mexican heritage. He captured his first world title in 2019, defeating Batyr Akhmedov, and later moved up to welterweight, where he faced top contenders, including a memorable bout against Gervonta “Tank” Davis in 2021. After securing a dominant victory over Fabian Andres Maidana in his last outing as the co-main event of Canelo vs. Munguia, he returned to the ring to face Ramos. “Abel Ramos is a tough Mexican fighter, just like me,” Barrios told Netflix ahead of Nov. 15. “Don’t miss this fight — it’s going to be war, puro San Antonio!”

Ramos is a relentless welterweight contender from Casa Grande, Arizona, known for his thrilling battles and relentless determination in the ring. He began his amateur career at 13 and transitioned to the professional ranks in 2011, quickly building a reputation by taking on formidable opponents like Ivan Baranchyk and Regis Prograis. This was Ramos’ second world title opportunity. “I’m very excited to be fighting for the WBC title, and I’m looking forward to a great fight against Mario Barrios,” Ramos told Netflix. “He’s a warrior just like me.”

Also on the card for the boxing mega-event were Neeraj Goyat, India’s No. 1 boxer and MVP’s first international signee, and Brazil’s multitalented superstar Whindersson Nunes. Goyat made his MVP debut against Nunes in a professional six-round super middleweight bout. Goyat won the bout by unanimous decision and a comprehensive 60-54 margin with 481 punches thrown, 171 landed.

Goyat began his amateur boxing career in 2006 and quickly began his rise to the top. He won the WBC Asia title in 2015, 2016, and 2017 and was the first Indian boxer ever to make the WBC World Rankings. “I couldn’t be more excited to make my MVP debut on what promises to be the biggest boxing event in history,” Goyat told Netflix.

Nunes is a Brazilian icon and social media superstar, with a massive following online. Known for his charismatic presence both inside and outside the ring, Nunes has faced notable opponents, including his 2022 bout against legendary world champion Acelino “Popó” Freitas, which went the distance over eight rounds and resulted in a draw for the fighters. “I grew up watching big names in boxing, so having the opportunity to be part of this card and challenge myself in this sport is an honor,” Nunes said.
