Sillu Karuppatti
Love is the thing in this 2019 Tamil-language anthology film, which is written and directed by Halitha Shameem (Aelay). Its four stories portray moments of love and connection between people of different age groups, including a teen experiencing a first crush and a widower who finds genuine companionship. Lust Stories
In 2013, four of India’s biggest directors — Anurag Kashyap, Zoya Akhtar, Dibakar Banerjee, and Karan Johar — created segments for Bombay Talkies, which celebrates Indian cinema. In this 2018 Hindi-language anthology film — the first of a trilogy — the same directors helm chapters about love, sex, and relationships in modern India. The 2020 Hindi-language stories introduce a young nurse and her patient, a pregnant woman caring for her late sister’s child, a newcomer to a mysterious and desolate town, and a man haunted by his late grandmother.

Another anthology about the complexities of desire, this film is helmed by a new quartet of directors: Amit Ravindernath Sharma, R. Balki, Konkona Sen Sharma, and Sujoy Ghosh. In this 2023 Hindi-language release, the bold segments are connected thematically and consider the onscreen relationships from the point of view of the women.

A new class of Indian cinema’s most distinctive directors — Vikramaditya Motwane, Kiran Rao, Shakun Batra, and Vishal Bhardwaj — joins forces to share four more chapters about intimacy, longing, and togetherness.
