Some of us love sports. Some of us simply love the pop culture they generate (hello, Cheer and The Last Dance). No matter on which side of the athletic fence you sit, Adam Sandler is coming to the Netflix court with a slam dunk: basketball movie Hustle. And the drama’s just-released teaser promises Hustle is bound to make your heart race.
Sandler stars as Stanley Sugerman, a down-on-his-luck basketball scout itching to prove his worth and realize his own NBA dreams. As the teaser trailer reveals, Stanley finds his possible salvation in Bo Cruz, portrayed by real-life Spanish baller Juancho Hernangómez. While Stanley wants Bo to come to America and prove his mettle stateside — despite a rocky past — the video teases that the big move isn’t quite so simple.
“Do you love this game? I mean love it with your whole heart? Because if you don’t, let’s not even bother. Let’s not open that door. They’re just going to slam it right in our face,” Stanley tells Bo in the teaser. “There’s a thousand other guys waiting in the wings who are obsessed with this game. Obsession is going to beat talent every time. You got all the talent in the world, but are you obsessed?”
Hustle will answer that question, while supplying viewers with countless shots of Bo putting his nose to the grindstone to prove his determination. At least one person is seemingly impressed: Stanley’s wife, played by Queen Latifah.
Sandler and basketball mogul LeBron James co-produced Hustle, which premieres on Netflix June 10. Until then, you can get your fill of inspiration — and shirtless balling — from the teaser trailer below.
