His & Hers Wants to Know Who You Trust: Tessa Thompson or Jon Bernthal?

The twisted thriller is streaming now.

    Jan. 8, 2026

There are two sides to every story: his and hers. Which means someone is always lying. And the seductive and twisty psychological thriller His & Hers, now streaming on Netflix, invites you to decide who to trust.

Tessa Thompson and Emmy-winner Jon Bernthal lead the drama — from visionary filmmaker William Oldroyd (Eileen, Lady Macbeth) — as Anna Andrews and Jack Harper, two Georgia residents with an intriguing connection to a shocking murder. You can see the duo in the sultry first photos of the six-episode limited series, which is an adaptation of Alice Feeney’s novel of the same name.

“I am beyond elated to be collaborating with a filmmaker I have long admired and an incredible team to make a fresh offering in a genre that I can never get enough of,” Thompson, who also executive produces His & Hers, tells Tudum. “From the second I heard what Will was imagining doing with Alice Feeney’s brilliant book to the moment I visited the town where our story is set, I was hooked.”

“When His & Hers lands on Netflix, it will be seven years since I wrote the book in my shed,” Feeney tells Tudum. “What a journey it has been. I love this story with all of my dark heart, I love the TV series too, and everyone who helped make this dream come true.”

Hop on the case now, and learn all about His & Hers, including the plot, cast, and more.

What is His & Hers about?

In the sweltering heat of Atlanta, Anna (Thompson) lives in haunted reclusion, fading away from her friends and career as a news anchor. But when she overhears talk about a murder in Dahlonega — the sleepy north Georgia town where she grew up — Anna is snapped back to life, pouncing on the case and searching for answers. Detective Jack Harper (Bernthal) is strangely suspicious of her involvement, chasing her into the crosshairs of his own investigation.

Who’s in the cast of His & Hers?

The cast of His & Hers includes:

  • Tessa Thompson as Anna, who lives as a recluse, away from her friends and career as a WSK TV News anchor. She’s captivated by a haunting murder in her sleepy hometown of Dahlonega.
  • Jon Bernthal as Jack, a sheriff’s office detective who lost his last job and is now working in his hometown of Dahlonega, Georgia, where he lives with his sister and niece. He’s married to newscaster Anna, but the two are estranged, their relationship complicated by loss and betrayal. Jack is a good man who doesn’t always make good decisions, and he’s deeply troubled by the murder case he’s just picked up.
  • Pablo Schreiber as Richard, one of the best camerapeople at WSK TV News and the husband of hot new anchor Lexy Jones, who slid into her position during Anna’s absence. Anna chooses Richard to be her cameraperson when she returns as a field reporter to cover the murder in Dahlonega.
  • Crystal Fox as Alice, Anna’s mother, who still lives in her house in Dahlonega. She’s strong, says what she thinks, and lives alone … but maybe shouldn’t. She hasn’t heard from her daughter in a year, but she knows why. Alice’s son-in-law, Jack, has been watching over her because her health has been declining, which has also resulted in some odd behavior around town on her part.
  • Sunita Mani as Priya, who’s earnestly efficient, eager to please, and fascinated by murder. She’s Jack’s new partner at the sheriff’s office. Having left the big city to work in a small town, Priya brings a sharp quirkiness to the job that her mentor Jack finds both endearing and annoying.
  • Rebecca Rittenhouse as Lexy, a woman with a Hollywood smile. Lexy is smart, professional, and driven by raw ambition. She’s now the anchor at WSK TV News — a position the hugely popular Anna had held for years. As a new field reporter at WSK, Lexy capitalizes on Anna’s leave of absence, leapfrogging into the anchor desk position. Though she’s “delighted” to see Anna back at the news station, she has no intention of giving up the coveted role.
  • Marin Ireland as Zoe, a sharp-tongued and bored woman. She lives in her parents’ house with Jack and her 6-year-old daughter, Meg. Her love of wine and her too-tight sweatpants suggest she’s a woman who peaked in high school. She’s letting Jack stay with her till he gets back on his feet; meanwhile, news about the murder he’s investigating in their small town is equally exciting and shocking when she learns who the victim is.
  • Ellie Rose Sawyer as Meg, Zoe’s young daughter who is playful and wise beyond her years. She adores her Uncle Jack.
  • Chris Bauer as Clyde, Rachel’s husband and a pizza chain mogul who’s very candid about his immense wealth. He becomes a person of interest for Detective Jack Harper, and the secrets he keeps may make him the perfect suspect.
  • Jamie Tisdale as Rachel, a former friend of Anna’s from St. Hilary’s — her life in Dahlonega is not at all what it seems.
  • Poppy Liu as Helen, the headmistress at St. Hilary’s Academy who’s fiercely self-protective. She’s a good friend of the murder victim and becomes increasingly irritated and incensed by Anna’s reporting. But Anna can’t help feeling that Helen is hiding something.
  • Rhoda Griffis as Dr. Carol Turner, a seasoned pathologist who performs autopsies with clinical charm.
  • Tiffany Ho as Teen Helen, a member of Anna, Rachel, and Zoe’s friend group at St. Hilary’s Academy in Dahlonega.
  • Isabelle Kusman as Teen Rachel, another one of the members of the friend group at St. Hilary’s Academy.
  • Dave Maldonado as the sheriff, who is Southern and no-nonsense. He’s determined to keep the status quo and glad to have seasoned detective Jack on the case.
  • Kristen Maxwell as Teen Anna, who was also a member of the friend group at St. Hilary’s Academy.
  • Leah Merritt as Teen Zoe, the fourth member of the friend group at St. Hilary’s Academy.
  • Mike Pniewski as Jim Pruss, the smart, ratings-obsessed general manager at WSK News in Atlanta. Jim is fond of former anchor Anna Andrews but must prioritize the newcomer that took her place, Lexy Jones.
  • Astrid Rotenberry as Catherine Kelly, an awkward teen who doesn’t seem to fit in at St. Hilary’s Academy.

Is His & Hers based on a book?

Yes, the series is an adaptation of Alice Feeney’s 2020 novel of the same name. While the show is set in Dahlonega, Georgia, the book’s story unfolds in a small British village named Blackdown.

Feeney conceived His & Hers while walking her dog in Hydon’s Ball in Surrey seven years ago, and was energized by the idea that she wrote the first three drafts in three months.

“Sometimes writing is a bit like falling in love, and I was obsessed with this story,” says Feeney. “When I think about the journey this story has been on, from having the idea, to writing it in my shed, to seeing it published all over the world, and now seeing the characters come to life on screen, it feels nothing less than magic.”

The most magical moment so far was when Feeney visited the show’s set, which “felt like a life highlight, not just a career highlight,” she says. “Seeing characters who had lived inside my head for so long come to life, was unlike anything I had experienced before. Jon Bernthal was one of the first people I met on set. He was dressed as Jack Harper, so all I saw was Jack walking and talking and coming towards me. Seeing my characters come to life for the first time was one of the most surreal moments of my life, and Tessa and Jon are the perfect Anna and Jack.”

Where was His & Hers filmed?

His & Hers was shot in Atlanta, Georgia. As Oldroyd tells Netflix, “His & Hers is one of the few shows that was shot in Georgia for Georgia.”

The cast and producers felt that filming on location added a level of verisimilitude to the story. “Georgia is an excellent place for filming, often called the Hollywood of the South, fostering a lively energy among productions,” Thompson tells Netflix. “There is also a genuine feel when shooting on location in Atlanta and Dahlonega, which allows us to engage with the local community, like newscasters and police, to add authenticity to the show.”

Bernthal adds, “Georgia is my favorite place to film, primarily due to the exceptional talent and enthusiasm of the crew. There's a palpable sense of wonder and fun here, which reminds me why I love this work so much and feel so grateful to be doing it.”

Who’s the creative team behind His & Hers?

Thompson stars in and executive produces His & Hers. Director and creator William Oldroyd serves as executive producer and co-showrunner alongside Dee Johnson.  Bill Dubuque is a writer and executive producer. Executive producers also include Kristen Campo for Campout Productions, Jessica Chastain and Kelly Carmichael for Freckle Films, and Kishori Rajan for Viva Maude. Fifth Season participates as the studio.

“The best of the best have worked so hard to make this a very special show, and I am forever grateful,” Feeney says.
