A journalist, a bodyguard, and a dictator walk into a jungle … and chaos ensues. Claire Wellington (Brie) desperately needs the scoop of a lifetime to get her scandal-ridden career back on track. Paldonia’s unpredictable president, Venegas (Raba) — who hasn’t given an interview in decades — wants to use Claire’s massive platform to reclaim Paldonia from foreign corporate greed. And Mason Pettits (Cena), Claire’s bodyguard, wants to get through it all in one piece so he can get home and mend his rocky marriage.
But when Mason finds out who Claire’s interviewing, he realizes that what he thought would be a simple work trip is going to be anything but. He’s going to have to swallow his hatred for Venegas — the man he blames for the death of his special forces squad and his forced return to civilian life — if he wants to keep Claire safe. Tensions between Claire, Mason, and Venegas rise until mercenaries attack the President’s convoy and the three have to trust each other if they want to leave the jungle alive. The rollicking adventure that follows finds the trio downing helicopters, escaping enemies in a slow-speed horse chase, and forming surprising friendships along the way.

Freelance takes place in the fictitious country of Paldonia.
