Eric Bana is venturing into the wilderness of an American national park in the recently-launched limited series UNTAMED. As Kyle Turner, an Investigative Services Branch agent of the National Parks Service, Bana is on the hunt for a killer, one who knows Yosemite National Park as well as he does; however, the dark secrets lurking in both Kyle and the park’s past may be just as dangerous as the murderer.

Created by Mark L. Smith (American Primeval, The Revenant) and Elle Smith (The Marsh King’s Daughter), the character-driven mystery thriller follows a murder on the grounds of Yosemite. “Everyone thinks of Yosemite as this beautiful place with all the vistas and all the scenery, but we were trying to touch on the dangers that are just beyond that,” co-showrunner Mark L. Smith tells Tudum. “I love stripping all the cheats away, stripping all the more modern tools that people can use. It really gets down to the character and what they can find within themselves.”

Can I see a teaser for UNTAMED?

Yes! You can get a tantalizing peek at the wilds of UNTAMED at the top of this page. “People come here to explore,” Bana’s Kyle Turner intones over the footage. “They see maybe 10% of the park. The rest that’s out there… Things happen different out here.” You’ll need a guide for this forest.

What is UNTAMED about?

UNTAMED is a character-driven mystery thriller that follows Kyle Turner, a special agent in an elite branch of the National Parks Service who works to enforce human law in nature’s vast wilderness. The investigation of a brutal death sends Turner on a collision course with the dark secrets within the park, and in his own past.

As seen below, Turner is accompanied on his investigation by Naya Vasquez (Lily Santiago), a rookie park ranger more accustomed to city life than to the wilds of Yosemite. “Because Vasquez is new to the park, we get to see the park through her eyes,” co-showrunner Elle Smith tells Tudum. “We get to understand what this job is, and see the beauty of the park, but also the dangers.”

Bana (Dirty John, Troy) is an executive producer of the six-episode drama, while Smith and Smith also serve as executive producers and writers. UNTAMED is also executive produced by John Wells for John Wells Productions (Maid, Shameless), Escape Artists Entertainment (The Equalizer 3, Being the Ricardos), Steve Lee Jones for Bee Holder Productions (Chief of Station, You Don’t Know Jack), and Cliff Roberts (The Midnight Sky, Emancipation). The series is a co-production with Warner Bros. Television Studios (You, Sweet Tooth).

Who’s in the cast of UNTAMED?

The cast of UNTAMED includes:

  • Eric Bana (Black Hawk Down, Troy) as Kyle Turner, a special agent for the National Park Service Investigative Services Branch (ISB) who works to enforce human law in nature’s vast territories.
  • Sam Neill (Jurassic Park, Apples Never Fall) as Paul Souter, who’s been the chief park ranger in Yosemite for half his life. He’s a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend to Turner. He’s comfortable in all facets of his job, whether dealing with crime inside the park or the bureaucracy around it.

  • Rosemarie DeWitt (La La Land, The Staircase) as Jill Bodwin, Turner’s ex-wife. A former teacher and park counselor, Jill remarried a few years after their divorce. Despite the fracturing of their marriage, Jill and Turner maintain a strong bond, held together by events from their past.

  • Lily Santiago (La Brea, Mary Jane on Broadway) as Naya Vasquez, an ambitious young cop from Los Angeles. Vasquez is the newest addition to Yosemite’s ranger squad; she came to the park to find a new life with her 4-year-old son, Gael. Despite being a little green when it comes to a landscape like Yosemite, her strong will, astute investigative skills, and big-city homicide techniques become useful tools in a murder that is distinctly human.

  • Wilson Bethel (Daredevil, All Rise) as Shane Maguire, a former army ranger who now uses his skills as the park’s wildlife management officer. Maguire’s a loner, preferring to live by himself in the wilderness where it’s easier to follow his own rules.
